- Raising MEAP Testing Bar Without Teacher Training is "Recipe for Failure"
The Michigan State Board of Education recently raised the minimum scores needed to pass the Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP) and Michigan Merit Exam (MME) tests. Deborah Ball commented in The Grand Rapids Press that raising the MEAP standards without helping teachers improve will only foster more failure and advocated for nation-wide standards: “Teachers are going to need deliberate support, because telling students that now they have to score at a different level is a recipe for failure.” The Press article was printed February 8 - before the State Board approved the change.
