Despite numbers on the University of Michigan, enrollment currently standing at about 2%, the Latino voice on this campus is loud; particularly when it comes to issues of social justice. Nationwide, Latinos comprise 14.5% of the total United States population and are at the forefront of immigration reform policy, workers rights, homeland security reform. At the University of Michigan campus, many of these battles continue. The fight for immigrant rights, affirmative action, workers rights and Latino recruitment are issues paramount to the Latino student body as a whole.The dedicated work of many, contributes to an overall sense of solidarity. Borrowing from the work done nationally, the communities at Michigan can grow and become empowered.
