Louie Gonzalez, En Estos Ojos, 1976 This poster of a Chicana fights for the equality of women in the Chicano movement. Many Chicano men were reluctant to let women into the movement, believing instead that the traditional Chicana belonged in the household, supporting the man. Even when Chicanas were allowed to help in the movement, they usually were resigned to secretarial, rather than leadership, roles. The yin yang symbol in the corner speaks of equality and the give and take of males and females. A translation of the poem appears below: In these eyes of the past, of the future of pyramids and princesses smiles the soul of a Chicana and over wings of The Race flies the wind of these eyes fixing the spirits of the Movement with the smile of a thought
