The park has one very large mural that is painted on the back wall of
an old brick building. It was painted by Mr. Vito Valdez. This
mural, like many other Chicano murals, is meant
to be a symbol of inspiration and encouragement. It depicts three
hands, each
of a different color, rising from a bed of
flowers and holding a single book. Painted just below that is the
word, "Empowerment."
This mural reinforces to the
community that education is important and that knowledge is
power. The vibrant colors, amazing detail and
simple message that this mural conveys is very comforting and
reassuring that people still care about their community and want to
spread a positive
message and give people hope.
