Inspiring Latinas

The portrayal of latina women as 'sexy mamacitas' and uneducated housewives is really far from the truth. In reality, latinas are strong, independent, and inspiring women. Why is is that the successful positive image of latinas is rarely portrayed in the media? The media has served as a tool to homogenized latinas as a whole. For example, the distinctive cultures of Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, Cubans, etc. have been skewed and blurred into one race where latina women are demeaned and thought of as second-rate. In truth, latina women are unique and have impacted our society more than has been accredited to them. Some examples of these women are:
