My son seems best able to deal with the incongruities of life. Merlin updated me as to his actions during the attack by the demon, and I can see in him a lot of me. My sources still haven't been able to find anything out about the supposed mother, but I can't say I'm surprised. I do tend to get around.
He deals with things a lot better than his young friend. Konstantin seems to be troubled by the same kind of situation that Simon can accept. There is a melancholy in him, a feeling of alienation, which there needs not be. As someone wise told me once, "it matters not who your sire or dam was, but who you love that counts." If Rinaldo is his father, then so be it. Sure it presents problems -- Julian or Corwin probably wouldn't trust the kid as far as they could throw him, and Caine, well, Caine trusts no one. But Connie is Connie. He actually reminds me a lot of Corwin when we were younger, before we were smooth. Well, before Corwin was smooth.
The others. Powerful, yes. Locke reminds me of a cross between Dalt and Random, but there's a weirdness to him that I can't figure out. Jessica is her father's daughter. Both seem reluctant to be as vivacious as the redheads.
As any Uncle would, I had my nephews and neice help me track down the Shadow paths from Ygg. Intelligence from Merlin is forthcoming, but for some reason I don't think Chaos would do this. There are some hardliners who would embrace total chaos, true, but they are few, and the younger Chaos Lords would rather keep the current setup and have the upper hand on Amber. Very strange. So far, analysis of the diseased ichor has come up empty. And I was a bit surprised that Corwin's path from his Pattern to Ygg was still trailable.
Ah well. Fiona says Connie's talking to Luke again. Time to calm her down a bit before she starts thinking Konstantin's gained Brand's living trump abilities.
