I must admit that Mandor has an incredible presence. We went to question him and instead he questioned us. We told him the basics of how Merlin had been found. We told him our theories. We told him that Frakir was missing. He seemed taken aback at how easily we surrendered the information. I suppose it is a common game in Amber and Chaos to guard your little tidbits of information like they were each a pile of precious jewels, but that was not how we worked. We were up front and straight forward. Could we expect the same from Mandor?

When he learned that Frakir was gone he told us that he had created Frakir and given it to Merlin. He withdrew 3 small metal balls, the sort I used to store magical energy in. The balls spun and levitated on their own. Mandor selected one and sent it out in search of Frakir. What an odd tactic. I doubted it would work.

We also asked Mandor if he knew of any suspects in Chaos. He suggested Merlin's younger brother, Jert. Jert bore Merlin a good deal of ill will over something, but Mandor did not elaborate. He also suggested that friends of Korvan might have killed Merlin in retaliation. I dismissed this notion. Merlin's death was a part of something bigger than revenge. I could feel it. Still, we had another name to go on, and that was something.

Before we left I asked Mandor to look into who was behind the attacks on my home shadow and I suggested that Mandor pass the word around Chaos that my home shadow was not to be attacked any further. Let them worry about what the consequences may be.

A page had slipped me a note from Luke before we came to speak with Mandor. The note said that Luke needed to speak with me about something. It was time to find out what that mysterious something was. I paid Luke a visit.
