It was clear that our best chance of getting out of Amber without
Quinn or Corwin was via Trump. The idea had occurred to us all, so we
began
searching the castle. The first place we checked for Trumps was the
library. In our Amber several complete decks were stored there.
Here, a complete deck appeared to consist of Corwin, Quinn, and Castle
Amber. Sadly, none of which was very useful. We split into two groups
and searched further. The only other card we came upon was in
Corwin's bedroom. It was another of Castle Amber. I was beginning to
weigh the option of Trumping Quinn in an attempt to quickly pull her,
and maybe the others, through to us. It seemed like a slim chance,
but it would be better than attempting nothing. (Connie tried just
this tactic later to no effect) Luckily, Deirdre
remembered That Dworkin had drawn Trump sketched on a cell wall back
in our Amber. If Corwin had recreated that cell... The Trump
drawings were there. One of them was of
The Lighthouse of Cabra and
the other was of Dworkin's lab, presumably near the Primal Pattern.
We activated the Trump of the lab and successfully traveled through.
I can't remember if Quinn had been specific about whether her father
had drawn the cross-universe Trumps. I think she said, only, that he had
given them to her. Bleys had been surprised when I suggested that
Corwin might be a Trump artist, though he did admit it was certainly
possible. I am now beginning to think that it was Dworkin who drew
the RoseAmber Trumps. They did look similar in type to those on the
cell walls. Perhaps I will ask Connie about this later.
I find it likely that Brandon has Trump artist abilities.
When we return to Amber I will have to check the dungeon cells. I
think I have found the simplest method of traveling to the Primal
Pattern. It may some day be a very helpful bit of knowledge.
