Fritzholm Hammermill's Past

Fritzholm began as a scout in his hometown of Fallshire and soon went on to become a royal ranger for Lord Lyons of Lyonspire. Lyonspire is a young fiefdom near, but not on the borderlands. It is a prosperous but somewhat wild area rich in resources with thick hardwood forests, excellent craftsmen, and fields adequate for most crops. For several years Fritzholm tended to the remote areas of the land, protecting and serving those far from the cities until he was passed over once too often for promotion. He felt a wanderlust. With the blessing of Lord Lyons he set out to find his own way in the world.
Fritzholm signed on with Master Trader Shontinno as a caravan guard. only a few months thereafter he was forced to step in as trader when Shontinno was disabled by a mysterious cabal called The Hierarchy. He lead the caravan mostly as a figurehead, leaving the organizational tasks to Shontinno's capable assistants. Still he gain valuable leadership experience and became a shrewd trader. When Shontinno fully recovered Fritzholm departed from the caravan. Shontinno assured Fritzholm that he could always collect a favor from his family if he ever found himself in trouble. He was taken by Shontinno's notion of favor and traveled aimlessly granting favors to those in need until he heard tale of a great city and its mystical tower.
Fritzholm had always been a sucker for a bard's tale and found himself setting out on a vast journey in search of the great city Jarad. On his way, he met and became close friends with a fearless dwarf named Nikkos. Nikkos accompanied him to Jarad where they were abruptly captured and brought up on trumped up charges. Along with a pair of upstart elven mages Fritzholm and Nikkos were forced to quest for five parts of a star gem that held the key to the Tower of Jarad. The entire affair sat very poorly with Fritzholm who secretly schemed against those who had conspired against them.
The party met up with a strange and magical fellow who called himself only 'The Traveler' and a benevolent but only guardedly helpful cleric named Durental who told them vaguely where the parts of the gem might be found. The quest led the party to the illusionary Forest of Clarity where they retrieved the first piece of the gem. Fritzholm held the first gem piece as leverage. He threaten to use the secrets he had gained from The Traveler to destroy the gem forever if he and his compatriots were not released from the quest. Bob, the warden of Jarad was forced to comply. Fritzholm turned the first piece of the gem over to Durental and ranged far as he could from Jarad.
Fritzholm eventually found himself in the pine covered foothills of the Seraldin Mountains. He roamed the countryside for nearly a year battling an infestation of orcs. During his travels he stumbled onto a plot to dethrone King Andreas of Seraldia. King Andreas, being unmarried and childless, had no clear successor. The traitorous house of Anjou captured the king. They planned to make a claim for the throne and then dispose of Andreas. Fritzholm teamed up with a clever mage by the name of Jonas and rescued the King. Anjou was forced to flee the kingdom. Fritzholm was granted the title of Cavalry Captain.
The threat of orcs dwindled and Fritzholm turned his attention to military concerns. He led a small cavalry force which was used mainly for reinforcement and escort. Recently his unit was sent into the mountains to meet up with and escort a caravan safely to Seraldia. A few adventurers joined up with the cavalry unit to make a trip to the mountain city of Freeverse. Their journey was cut short by an incredible blizzard which descended upon them from nowhere. The maelstrom took everyone by surprise and Fritzholm was only able to lead a few scattered travelers to shelter in a system of mountain caves.
The caravan never made it to Seraldia.
