Soulpiercer was created by Laurence as an experiment in 1331 AD. The aim was to create an artifact that would exist at the intersection of the Corporeal, Ethereal, and Celestial Realms. He combined techniques for creating talismen and relics with the art of forging the finest metals. The sword was light and strong. It held a spectacular edge. It was strongly attuned to the corporeal, maybe a little too strongly. The result was not entirely what he expected. The sword was a talisman holding a small shred of Laurence's skill with large weapons, but it was no relic or even a reliquary. At first it appeared that the experiment had failed.

Laurence lost interest in the sword and let it sit in his cathedral arsenal for several years before Samuel, a Cherub of Eli in service of Sword, happened upon the weapon. Upon holding it he immediately knew of the sword's hidden power. With a little essence it could bridge the corporeal and celestial realms, doing damage of both types. Samuel brought this to Laurence's attention, christening it Soulpiercer. Samuel studied Soulpiercer for nearly a month to learn its secrets and was able to duplicate some of its realm spanning capabilities in other artifacts. Since Samuel had little use for the weapon itself he returned it to Laurence.

In 1343 Laurence gifted Soulpiercer to Maxwell, who has been in possession of it ever since.

Soulpiercer is a level 2 artifact. It gives its wielder +2 to their large weapons skill and does 2 more points of damage than a typical longsword. The wielder may spend one essence to activate Soulpiercer's ability to do both corporeal and celestial damage. This effect last until the combat has completed.
