Non-Player Characters are the people and creatures that the players interact with. They can be anything from the local barkeep, to an evil necromancer, to the chieftain of a nearby orc tribe. In essence, this is a list of contacts and enemies. It is intended to help jog the players' memories when suffering from bouts of amnesia...
[The Good] [The Bad] [The Unknown] Elmo: Elmo is a big brute of a ranger rather lacking in common sense. Additionally, the big man is rather fond of a stout tankard of ale, and can often be found slumped over the bar at the Inn of the Welcome Wench. Despite somewhat frequent bouts of drunkenness, Elmo spends much of his time scouting the wilderness around Hommlet and reporting his findings to Poul. Elmo is the brother of Otis. Griselda: Poul's wife, Griselda is a woman of large stature with an even larger force of will. She is quick to take charge of a given situation, and helps Poul with village affairs behind the scenes. She has extended her services any time should the companions have need of them. Hadras: Hadras is a young gnome on his year-long rite of passage. He was captured by the Kron Hills bandits when he and his companion were ambushed. The party rescued him from the bandit tower along with Thuufer. Hadras, who instantly took a liking to Nix, offered to send any word of banditry to the party in Hommlet. He then returned to his clan in the south. Murfles: Murfles is an extemely tall elf. The left side of his face is fire-scarred, the result of some unknown past tragedy. He speaks in a deep murmur through the right side of his mouth. He works in the herb shop with Y'Dey. Otis: Otis is An enormous man standing about seven feet in height with a barrel chest, broad shoulders, and tree-trunk legs. He runs the smithy in Nulb, but it is only a cover. He keeps an eye on the Temple itself, and is knowledgeable about the groups that frequent the place. Along with Y'Dey, he spies on the ill-reputable denizens of Nulb and the Temple. Otis is the brother of Elmo, whom he looks down upon for his incessant drinking. Poul, "Mayor of Hommlet": An older, portly gentleman, Poul wears his emotions on his sleeve. Obviously distraught by the goings-on in and around Hommlet, Poul pleads with the party to solve the bandit problem as soon as possible. Wilfric, Viscount of Verbobonc: At first glance Wilfric is unimpressive, being of average height and build and sporting a mane of hair more gray than black. When he speaks, however, it becomes evident why this man is in a position of power. His stature belies the force of his deep voice, which commands the room as well as any king might. He has a way of inspiring people with his charismatic repertoire, even though he speaks from the heart and does not bother sugar-coating his speeches. It is to Wilfric's call for adventurers that the party has responded. He spun a tale of banditry and worse to the south, and promised land and title as reward for the party's help investigating the matter. Y'Dey: Y'Dey is the Canoness of the Church of St. Cuthbert in Hommlet. She currently resides in Nulb, posing as "Mother Screng" and running an herb shop. Secretly, however, she is spying on Nulb and the Temple with Otis. To help protect her identity, her whereabouts are unknown to all but Poul, Jaroo, and a select few others in Hommlet. Her clergy isn't even privvy to her location. Ashrem: A short, black-robed sorceror who was the apparent leader of the bandit tower in the Kron Hills. He put up quite a fight before finally succumbing to the party. A note found in his desk indicates that he receives orders from someone or something with the monicker "L". Chert: Chert is of average height, standing about five foot nine inches tall. He is well muscled, but not overly so. He sports a head of short black hair and a face full of stubble, as though he is little concerned with shaving. He has brown eyes that often dart about, seldom settling on anything for more than a few moments. He wears a suit of dark brown leather and has a longsword sheathed at his belt. For reasons of his own, Chert betrayed the party during an ambush while on the trail of the bandits. He managed to knock Learna unconscious before escaping with his life. He remains at large. L: Known only from the note to Ashrem found in the bandit tower, "L" remains a mystery. He/she/it apparently gives orders to the bandits, at least those found in the tower. "L" has been revealed to be a man named Lareth, who was apparently in charge of the forces at the Moathouse. It was Lareth who oversaw the raiding in the countryside, sending kidnapped victims to the Temple. He was summarily defeated in the dungeons beneath the moathouse, and Xilo now wears the man's armor. Burne: A wizard of unknown strength and motives, Burne lives in the newly constructed tower on the eastern edge of Hommlet. He leads the Badgers, a highly trained mercenary company which he says will defend Hommlet should the need arise. He speaks in a cold, seemingly emotionless tone, and at times seems aloof. Kobort: Kobort is a large, simple yet sarcastic, Oeridian warrior. He joined the group in Hommlet before they left for Nulb as a gesture by the council for aid. Apparently, Kobort and Turuko were in town on their way to points west and agreed to come along. Turuko: Turuko is A short but powerfully built Suel from lands unknown. He and Kobort were staying at the Inn of the Welcome Wench before heading for points west when the council asked them to help the party explore the Temple. Their motivation is unknown, but monetary rewards are expected. |
