Catostomidae

Golden redhorse juvenile (deep peduncle, large scales-42 lateral rows)

Black redhorse juvenile (slender peduncle, small scales-46 lateral rows)

Hogsucker (long face, dark saddle markings, concave between eyes)

 

Cyprinidae

Blacknose dace (strong black stripe on body, head and face)

Creek Chub (fine scales, big mouth)

Horneyhead chub (coarse scales big, subterminal mouth)

Rosyface shiner (sharp face)

Spotfin shiner (bluish color, spot between posterior rays of dorsal fin)

Sand shiner (= = = = lateral line marks)

Mimic shiner (black base of anal fin and around anus)

Bluntnose minnow (spot at base of caudal, blunt nose, crowded scales on back)

 

Ictaluridae

Yellow bullhead (adipose fin with a free posterior edge; yellow chin barbels)

Brindled madtom (adipose fin smoothly connected to caudal fin; color mottled dark brown)

 

Fundulidae

Blackstripe topminnow (flat head, superior mouth position)

 

Atherinopsidae

Brook silverside (pointed snout, slender body, long anal fin)

 

Percidae

Greenside darter (blunt snout, subterminal mouth; large markings on caudal peduncle)

Least darter (small, small fins; orange pelvic fins in male)

 

Centrarchidae

Largemouth bass (dark green lateral stripe on light green background color; long dorsal spines)

Smallmouth bass (pale olive green, tricolor tail in juveniles; short dorsal spines)

Rock bass (9 anal spines, gold and black)

Warmouth sunfish (dark brown  pigment, large mouth, 3 anal spines)

Bluegill sunfish (small mouth, 3 anal spines, opercular spot solid black, bluish on cheek)

Pumpkinseed sunfish (like bluegill, but crimson crescent on opercular spot)

 

Cottidae

Mottled sculpin (wide head, spines on cheek, first dorsal fin with soft flexible spines)
