The prairie plot [14 KB] is near the TNC sign [15 KB] on Prairie Street. As an important part of managing the area, the prairie plot was carefully burned [7 KB] in spring 1996. Volunteers watched and helped [7 KB] during the burn. Afterward [14 KB], Dr. Bob Grese (University of Michigan, School of Natural Resources and Environment) talked about the importance of fire to prairie species.
During spring and summer, it is common to see a single Canada goose [13 KB] or several Canada geese [18 KB] swimming in the pond.
The American toad [86 KB] can be found in the nature center and in neighborhood yards. (Here's a view of the toad's back [26 KB] and head [20 KB].)
