1988-89 EFL Season

This is the year expansion hit the league.  Expansion occurred in two ways.  First, two new franchise owners were added: Kevin Townsend's Katatonics, and Chris Maksym's Comebackers.  Secondly, the scoring system was modified to include running back receptions and running back receiving yards.

This was also the first year for an official "Stats Man".  The maker of the rules (i.e. winner the previous year) served as lead statistician, however he made so many calculation errors that the league revolted.  Unfortunately, unburdened by the time required to perform this function, he was able to devote more time to managing his franchise and less to league administrative duties.

Mike repeated, surviving another serious challenge by pulling it out over Bruce in the last week of the season.  Mike used the likes of Boomer Esiason, Hershel Walker, John L Williams, Henry Ellard, and Ernest Givens to win by 275 points.

Expansion franchise owner Chris finished a mere 4,429 points out of the lead.  At least Mike did not beat the "Superteam", a fictional team formed by the best players from the other 7 owner's teams.  This team bested Mike by more than 5,000 points and included John Elway, Dan Marino, Doug Williams, Eric Dickerson, Roger Craig, Neil Anderson, Curt Warner, Jerry Rice, Al Toon, JT Smith, Andre Reed, and Morton Anderson.
