1995-96 EFL Season
The 1995-1996 EFL
Draft was held at the Chaffee's house. Barry, having finished in last, drafted
first and quickly snatched up Steve Young only to follow that choice up with
an aging Therman Thomas. Another last place finish was in store for this
sometimes apathetic expansion owner.
The league's first two champions are caught in a poignant moment. Sheila Ryan reacts as Mike Ryan completes his fourth round draft pick. Mike selected Rashaan Salaam as follow-up to Drew Bledsoe in the first round, Errict Rhett in the second round, and Terrance Mathis in the third. Not quite "U.E." compared to her choices of Marino, Pickens, Favre and Brisby. Perhaps it was because he used a fantasy football rag instead of the old stalwart "The Sporting News".
It was old times, as the former league commissioner R. Scott Russell (right) was invited back to observe the proceedings. His presence served as a good luck charm for the Comebackers as Chris Maksym (left) finished in second place for the first time in franchise history, losing to by a mere 193 points. Note the use of the same fantasy magazine as Mike Ryan.
Robert "Guido" Wolk
turns his back on the entertainment and studies his selection options intently.
Note the beard. Word has it that Guido spent two months camped out in
a secluded corner of the Pro Football Hall of Fame hoping to pick up tips from
fans passing through from throughout the country. As mentioned below,
this would pay off in an unexpected manner.
The obligatory group
photograph. Kevin proudly holds the trophy he says he won the previous
year. Little did he know disaster would follow, finishing in 6th place.
In a titanic effort, Guido's team emerged from obscurity in what would be the
first of consecutive titles.
