Bob,
I have a Palie Turner listed as a daughter of William H. Turner
and Margaret McGhee. She would be in the correct time period. I
cannot account for the different father and cannot verify my info
as I have found other erors in the source listing this is from.
If this is the correct person, or someone has additional
information, please post it. I can expand this through William's
ancestors to the Shadrack TURNER line if you want it.

Subj: Burnett research in Indiana
Date: 97-05-27 15:23:02 EDT
From: kevin2@falcon.cc.ukans.edu (Kevin K. Stephenson)
To: ncreed1@aol.com ('Nyla Creed DePauk')

Nyla,

I recently went on a family tree research trip to Indiana and
Connecticut, and I found some additional data relating to the
James Cunningham Burnett line, to which I and a few of the others
are related.

JCB's first child, by his first wife, Keziah Pulliam, was Pryor
Burnett, who moved to Indiana in the 1830's with his in-laws. I
am descended from Pryor through his son, James Jacob Burnett, but
was never able to find any records on James' marriage in the Owen
County, Indiana, records (James Jacob was known by the family to
have lived near Cataract, Indiana, which is in Owen County).

This time, on a hunch, I went to Putnam County, to the courthouse
in Greencastle, and located land and marriage records on Pryor
and several of his descendants. The summary of what I found
appears below:

Pryor Burnett, who married Elizabeth Tilley in Shelby County,
Kentucky, Dec. 20, 1827, purchased land in Putnam County,
Indiana, northeast of Greencastle, December 1, 1838. He sold his
interest in James Cunningham Burnett's land in 1839, to his
brother Felix. Pryor was a resident of Putnam County in the 1850
Census, and was a resident of Owen County in the 1870 Census. He
was a justice of the peace in Owen County, prior to his death in
1874. He is buried in the cemetery at Cloverdale, and his
tombstone misspells his name as Pryar.

James Jacob Burnett married Catherine Tillay (also spelled
Tilley) April 7, 1854, license issued in Putnam County March 4,
1854. James Burnett's tombstone gives his name as James L.
Burnett, but family tradition had his name as James Jacob. On
the marriage certificate, he is listed simply as Jacob Burnett.

Other Burnett marriages of record in Putnam County, Indiana:

Kiziah Burnett, married John P. Bandy January 1, 1852.
Thomas J. Burnett married Martha J. Cozden January 2, 1861.
Eliza J. Burnett married either James T. Mathis or Charles G.
Mathews (cert. has both, Mathis is probably correct, since
minister misspelled names of both bride and groom and had to
correct the date???) on August 19, 1864.

Martha Burnett married John S. Doddridge February 14, 1865.

Rosa E. Burnett married Jesse Williams November 18, 1871.

Minnie Burnett married Edward B. Walker June 4, 1879.

Catherine Burnett married Benjamin F. Dunkin, (no date)

Elizabeth A. Burnett married James O. Conner Feb. 2, 1856

Elizabeth Burnett married Stephen Shoemaker June 3, 1852

Ellen T. Burnett married Frank Skeen April 12, 1870.

Elvira S. Burnett married John VanHorn Jan. 23, 1851.

Frances Burnett married James L. Harris Mar. 13, 1852

George R. Burnett married Elizabeth Moreland Dec. 26, 1880.

Joseph R. Burnett married Matilda J. Brooks July 25, 1890.

Julia A. Burnett married William Hagray July 30, 1857.

Leonard O. Burnett married Catherine Johnson Nov. 16, 1876.

Lydia Burnett married Enoch Eggars Oct. 14, 1857

Sarah Burnett married Pery Crawley Jan. 1, 1852 (sister of
Kiziah, see date?)

Sarah E. Burnett married Jeremiah LaFolliett May 24, 1857.

Sarah E. Burnett married William W. Scott Mar. 20, 1901.

Anyone needing references to the books on any of these, let me
know.

This is for DAVID (n4jed)

WHOEVER IS INTERESTED IN THE BURNETT LINE FROM ABERDEEN:

I have just heard from June Baldwin Bork who wrote the huge
compilation that I have used to a certain extent, but have
checked where I could on the facts, has written to me and others
who bought her book. June herself is not online but if someone
wants her address I would be glad to pass it on.

She says:"The ancesry of our first JOHN BURNETT HAS BEEN FOUND!
He was christened on Christmas Day, 1610. Enclosed is a
chart...." at any rate, she offers to give details on how she
found all this after years and years of research.

I can send you a copy by scanner attatchment (2) if you are a
descendant of this BURNETT. For years they have been trying to
prove that he was a BURNETT of LEYS or NOT a BURNETT of LEYS, the
cavalier under Charles I who had one of the first land patents in
this country.

David, this is the line you and I have been discussing. If others
are interested, please pass it on.

Thanks,
Caroline Burnett Cook
