Dear potential "Cousin" Glenda,

Your J.W. Burnett may have been the eldest son of my gggrandfather, Capt.
William
Wiltshire Burnett, CSA ("Buck") I hope so, because you would be the closest
cousin I
have found so far. All I know about J.W. Burnett is that he was PROBABLY born
in
Tenn on Carter's Creek, near Columbia Tenn in Williamson County, which is
where MY
grandfather was born (Joseph Lee Burnett b. 1872, d. 1934 Birmingham, Al).
The family is a very old one from Virginia (WW Burnett was born and married
in
Dinwiddie County, Va.)

JW's mother was MARGARET J. ROUNTREE also originally from Va. He was married
twice: once to Anna PORTER and I do not know the other wife's name.

Brothers and sisters, besides my grandfather, Joseph Lee Burnett:
Walter Wiltshire Burnett who m. Ora Anderson
Fred Burnett who m. Blanche Hill
Frances Burnett
Mary Campbell Burnett

If you think this is your James W. (what was the W. for? Wilthsire?
Winfield?)

Do let me know if you think this is your Burnett line. I have A HUGE amount
to share.

Don't worry about it...it's tough to stay focused when you're moving, and
have the kind of upheaval that you've had lately.

I'm facing the same thing soon, will have to move about the end of
July...I'll keep you posted. My e-mail address and homepage won't change,
just snail-mail.

Do you happen to know if the Virginia Burnett's have any kind of a family
reunion? I promised Uncle Milton I'd take him there if there is one....

Several of the early generation's names look very familiar, as possibly
having been named after some of the Virginia Burnett's that Nyla and the
rest of the gang are related to. I'm going to forward this message to her

Dear Kevin (I have a son named Kevin, though it is not a family name),

My Tennessee Burnetts (pronounced "BURNIT" in the early days, I understand)
begin with

Gen 1.:JOSEPH BOLLING BURNETT 1800-1849, b. Dinwiddie Co., Va.
m. Rutherford Co., Tn. to Anna Beasley dau of a Va neighbor: Barnard
Beasley d. Williamson County Tn. on Carter's Creek near Columbia, Tn

Children of Joseph Bolling Burnett and Anna:

Gen 2
WILLIAM WILTSHIRE (Buck) BURNETT, CSA (1829-1873) m. Margaret Roundtree
James Taliaferro Burnett (emigrated to Dallas Co., south Al)
Elizabeth A. Burnett m. Richard A. Dodson
Emily J. Burnett m. William Atkinson
John J. Burnett
Mary "Polly" Burnett m. Thomas Roberds

CHILDREN OF WILLIAM WILTSHIRE BURNETT AND MARGARET
ROUNDTREE:
Gen 3 Walter Wiltshire Burnett m. Ora Anderson
JOSEPH LEE BURNETT m Fanny Elizabeth Jordan (my grandparents)
their sons: Gen 4-Joe Leland Burnett; CHARLES ARCHER
BURNETT
           J.W. Burnett m. Anna Porter
their son: Gen 4 was Leslie (Will) Porter Burnett
           Fred Burnett m Blanche Hill
" their daughters:Gen 4 -Clarice Burnett m. Ted Gibson
                                                      Kathryn Burnett
m.Robert Hailey
           Frances Burnett
           Mary Campbell Burnett

If ANY of that rings a bell, let me know. I do not know which became the
Ky Burnetts and the information is not readily available, but if you can give

me some names and dates I can try to look them up in June Bork's book.

What you see above was recorded by my own Tennessee family before I even
started genealogy. NOTE: CAPT. WILLIAM WILTSHIRE BURNETT was married
again to ELIZABETH BOWDEN about whom I know NOTHING, not even whether
they had any more children. Just the name.

Let me know, Kevin. Hope we can find a connection. By the way, the Burnetts
of Leys lived in CRATHES castle, I understand from June.

Good luck,
Caroline Burnett Cook

PS will check the Bork book on connection of George Burnet to John Burnett,
but I think we have very little that far back.
PSII Can you give me the website address for the main Burnett, Turner,
etc. homepage? Someone asked me and I did not record it. I just put your page

and Ricky Burnett's on my favorite places list...the lazy way.
