Nyla,
I've gotten far behind in reading the Burnett, Turner, Ross, Via
material, but in #137 I noted a query concerning ISHAM BARNARD.
Patrick Marriages, 1791-1850 (by Lela Adams) gives the following:
17 Sep 1852 - Isham Barnard & Elitha Mankins, dau of William
Mankins. Isham, the son of Tinea Barnad. Min. William Lawson.

Nyla: Hope you are finding happiness in your new home. I am descended from
Joseph BURNETT b. ca 1765 VA- d. prior to 5 Feb 1845 in Grainger Co TN
(s/o Charles BURNETT and Catherine BROCK both of whom d. soon after 1810
in Grainger Co TN). Joseph m. Sarah "Sally" ACUFF ca 1786. I am looking
for a marriage of Joseph to Sarah ACUFF. Looking for any documentation
that Joseph was the s/o Charles. Charles is known to have lived on
Leatherwood Creek in Henry Co VA prior to his move to Grainger Co TN. June
Bork did a beautiful job in providing information on this family. I am
looking for further documentation. Since many of you are searching Henry
and Pitsylvania Cos VA and surrounding areas. if you happen to see
information on these people, I would appreciate your help.

Seeking information regarding Mark Foster, schoolmaster.
He had son Charles Foster who married Turner.

Did Mark Foster have will? Seeking information whether
Mark Foster had a daughter that married John Witt (son of Daivd d1808)
in about 1774 in Henry CoVa.

The above John Witt had son Charles Witt born 1775. And
Charles Witt (1775-1848) had son named Charles Foster Witt. And
there were "Foster" Witts in subsequent generations.

Are there any record (will or deeds etc) that indicates that
Mark Foster had grandsons named Charles Witt b1775 and William
Witt b1776?

Date:	97-07-14 13:40:34 EDT
From:	BekahAnn
To:	NCreed1, OHIO-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com

My Great Grandmother Nella (Nellie) Mae TURNER was born 14 August 1892 in
Kanwha Co. WV. She was born at Winifrede which was the residence of her
father, W.H. TURNER. He was a miner. The mother's name is not given on her
birth record although the record says that the mother gave the birth
information.

On Nellie Mae's death certificate her parents are listed as WILBUR TURNER and
MAE STONE. According to family members they died in Charleston WV where they
had resided and were dead by 1908 when Nellie's first child was born. There
is no record of the deaths of either Wilbur or May/Mae Turner in Kanawha Co.

***The 1900 WV census index does not have them listed.

***The 1890 WV census was lost to fire.

***Circa 1888, Wilbur and Mae TURNER had their first child. (Their daughter
Nellie
Mae was the fourth birth; proceeding Della and twin Stella, and Mamie. Oscar
and Otto were born after Nellie Mae.) I can not find a marriage record in
Kanawha Co. WV for Wilbur TURNER and Mae STONE (Kanawha Co. marriage records
from 1878 to 1899 have been checked, with negative results).

***The 1880 Kanawha Co census shows a 17 year old W.H. TURNER, born VA, both
parents born VA, works on farm, living with the C.W. YOUNG family.

***The 1880 Kanawha Co census also shows a Wm. H. TURNER, age 52 with a wife
named Nannie age 35 (his second wife?) with the following children:
F.L. age 27, son
Henry, age 19, son
D.E.K., age 17, son
Effie, age 7 daughter
Elzinia, age 6, daughter
Mertie, age 4, daughter
Albert D., age 2, son

***I am still looking for the 1870 census to see if a 7 year old W.H. TURNER
was in the same household as Wm. H TURNER, age 42.

***The 1860 Kanawha Census shows Wm H. TURNER, engineer, age 32, wife
Elizabeth 27 with the following children:
Jane, age 9
Fletcher, age 7 (is this the F.L. listed age 27 in 1880 census)
Alice, age 5
Clinton, age 3
unnamed male child, age 1

I am looking for more information on W.H. Turner and the Wm. H. Turner
family. I
definately need the 1870 census to see if they were in the same household
when W.H. Turner was only 7 years of age. (No "northern" census' available at
local library.) Any help on this would be great. Please Email me with any
information.

Re: ELIZABETH TATE who married JOHN BURNETT: The Tate family may be a
little difficult to trace because of lost records in Hanover Co, Va.
John Burnett is first shown on the 1782 Tax List of Hanover - "a minor
in house of his father, Isaac." The previous year, showing that both
families lived there is the following:
1781 Jun 1 - A petition was filed by Nathaniel Talley, Executor of JOHN
TATE, dec'd & guardian of John Tate Jr, the son & heir of said dec'd...

1783 Sep 3 - John Burnett witnessed a deed when his father Isaac Burnett
of Hanover bought from Richard Richardson of Albemarle Co, Va, 6 acres
for 6 lbs, being part of said tract sold by Richardson to John Stark
Jr.. Beginning at a corner on FRANCIS TATE'S line.. to a white oak at
the lower corner of ISAAC BURNETT'S PLANTATION.. Wit: Thomas White, John
Stark, JOHN BURNETT. [Note: Richard Richardson sold to John Stark Jr
300 acres joining the lands off FRANCIS TATE & ISAAC BURNETT'S
PLANTATION]. I was told many years ago, that Elizabeth Tate was the
daughter of Francis Tate. However, I have not researched the Tate's,
but have recorded data as I found it. These records, plus, are in Vol 1
of THE BURNETTS & THEIR CONNECTIONS. Hope this helps. June Baldwin
Bork.

Nyla,
I have found where a Richard Turner of Bristol, England, signed an
indenture in 1669 to go to Virginia. Wonder if this could be Richard Turner
of Caroline County, VA, who died in the early 1740s. Could anyone out there
