The Turner Bible Record was in possession of Mrs. Myrtle Wood of Woolvine,
Va
and submitted by Mr. James Turner of Kettering, Ohio (now dec'd). The Bible
was
published 1793 in Scotland and contains the ADAM TURNER family of Patrick Co,
Va.
Descendants of the Patrick County Turners say there are two distinct families
unrelated in Patrick, but I am not so sure.
Sometime ago, I did a great deal of Turner research beings my Jeremiah
Burnett
married (Ganay) Jane Turner. Mr. O.E. Pilson, author of PATRICK CO, VA
CEMETRIES is also a Turner descendant and to quote from a letter he wrote me
on 25 Nov 1983: "...I SUSPECT THAT THIS FAMILY OF TURNERS [Shadracks] ARE
RELATED TO FRANCIS, but I have no proof at this time. According to the
stories that have come down, Francis Turner was born in Northern Ireland and
came to Albemarle Co, Va before the Revolution. He owned a farm in western
Albemarle which he sold in 1780 and moved to the Smith River area of Patrick
Co along with my ancestor William Pilson who married his daughter Esther.
Francis seems to have been a devout Presbyterian since he bequeathed a sum
of money in his will to the support of the church. This would indicate that
he was SCOTCH-IRISH. The tradition is that SHADRACK & his brothers, MESHACK
& ABEDNIGO came from England. Meshack originally settled in Franklin Co, Va
but later migrated to Georgia. Abednigo settled in Bedford Co, Va. The
descendants of these Turners speak of their ancestors as the British Turners,
while Francis' descendants speak of themselves as the Irish Turners. Since
both Turner families were from Great Britian, IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT
THERE WAS SOME KINSHIP...How close It may have been, I have no real idea.
THE FACT THAT YOU FOUND EVIDENCE OF SHADRACK HAVING LIVED IN ALBEMARLE CO,
VA WOULD INDICATE THAT ALL OF THESE TURNERS WERE RELATED..."

connected to the Smalls & Burnetts].

I read somewhere that Thomas Turner was a cousin of General Robert E.
Lee on his mothers side. (Robert E Lee's mother was Ann Hill Carter, dau
of Charles Carter & Anna Moore) Who was Thomas Turner's mother?
