For those of you who have not yet had enough of the TURNERs, here is the
beginning of my Generation 5. It is divided into four sections, Part A, B, C,
and D. As usual, all my disclaimers apply. No, it is not a work of fiction but
there is some guess work and family oral tradition involved.  Please review my
instructions/comments at the beginning of generation 1 if you have not done so

Fifth Generation

43.      John TURNER Jr.-487 was b. 21 Sep 1779 in Henry Co., VA. He
d. 20 May 1874 in Patrick Co., VA. There remains confusion as to the
children of John Turner, Jr. and his first cousin Rev. John Turner - son of
William Turner and Jane Hunter. The listing in this compilation is based
on a letter written in 1914 by a  grandson of Rev. John Turner describing
the family. Other researchers in Patrick and Henry Counties feel that
Ruth Turner,  Nancy Tate Turner, and Elizabeth Jane Turner should
belong to this  family of John Turner, Jr. instead of Rev. John based on
their research of census and other records.  John married (1) Sally
BURNETT-6646 on 31 Mar 1814 in Patrick Co.,  VA. They had the
following children:

44.      Shores Price "Shaws" TURNER-849 was b. 4 Feb 1785 in VA.
He d. 13 Oct 1839 in Rieves Co., MO. Shaw's name has also been listed
as Lashores by some researchers. He was a Private during the War of
1812. He was paid for his service with bounty land in Missouri.
Shores married (1) Adelphia TURNER-850, daughter of William
TURNER-499 and Jane HUNTER-493 on 18 Nov 1806 in Henry Co.,
VA. Adelphia was b. 4 Feb 1787 in Franklin Co., VA. She d. 19 Oct
1879 in Henry Co., VA. Adelphia's marriage date has been listed as the
15th., 18th., and 19th. by various sources. Adelphia and Shores were
married by Lewis Foster. Shores and Adelphia had the following
children:

Co., (later Patrick), VA. He d. 2 Nov 1870 in Patrick Co., VA and was
buried in Shadrack Turner Cem., Elamsville, Patrick Co., VA. Shadrack
married (1) Judith BURNETT-354, daughter of John BURNETT Sr.-360
and Elizabeth TATE-469 on 28 Jan 1813 in Patrick Co., VA. Judith was
b. 26 Nov 1797 in Elamsville, Patrick Co., VA. She d. 15 Jan 1872 in
Elamsville, Patrick Co., VA. Other sources list a marriage date of  18
Feb 1814. Shadrack and Judith had the following children:

represents the best guess based on the birth records and marriage records
that have been listed by various sources. Joseph married (1) Liddie

Mill.  It was apparently destroyed in a flood in 1850. Constantine

Co., VA. Elizabeth was b. about 1802 in VA. Constantine also married
(2) Mary LAVINDER-12734, daughter of ___ LAVINDER-12755 on
24 Sep 1838 in Franklin Co., VA. Mary was b. 1 Apr 1803. She d. 14
Jun 1894 in Floyd Co., VA. They had the following children:

Knoxville, Tennessee at the reported age of 16. He is listed in military
records as having deserted from the hospital at Athens, Tennessee on
9/1/1863 apparently along with his brother who had also signed up
during the War of Northern Aggression.



66.      George Wilson TURNER , Capt.-905 was b. 17 Oct 1776 in
Henry Co., (later Franklin), VA. He d. 13 Aug 1854 in Franklin Co., VA.
Following is the will of George Wilson Turner as cited in the book "A
History of the Turner Family of Franklin Co., VA" by William Roskey...

   Be it known to all men that I George Turner, of the County of Franklin
and State of Virginia, do make this my last will and testament in
mannerand form followeth to wit.
   1st - My will is that all my just debts and burial expenses be paid out of
my perishable estate.
   2nd - I will and bequeath to my beloved wife, Mildred Turner, during
her natural Life all my lands standing in my name, except the tract
known by the name of the Guilliams tract, which I desire to be sold by
my executors, either public or private as they may think best. Also seven
of my slaves namely Tibbam, Jack, Samuel, Lucy, Sparel, Meeby and
Mildred; also all my household and kitchen plantation tools as she may
think proper to keep for her proper use and benefit; also as much of my
stock of every description and use and benefit; also my blacksmith's
tools; also enough for her family 12 months to have and enjoy the above
named property during her natural life, and after her death to return to
my estate, and to be divided as equal as can be, according to my bequests
hereafter to be made in every respect.
   My will is that my executors sell the remainder of my slaves as soon as
convenient after my death and that they be all bought by my legatees
only, also the slaves I give to my wife during her life when exposed to
sale be bought by my legatees only.
   I give my executors power to sell the above named property on such
credit as they may think will most promote the interests of my estate.
   Thirdly - I will and bequeath to my beloved son Obadiah Turner 1/12
part of my estate both real and personal, dividing the sum of $1.50 from

68.      John TURNER , Rev.-774 was b. 20 Sep 1789 in Henry Co., VA.
He d. 20 May 1874 in Patrick Co., VA and was buried in Lackey -
Turner, Cemetery, Patrick Co., VA. 
John and Nancy moved from Henry County to Patrick County, Virginia
about 1828. John was a Primitive Baptist preacher along with his brother
Elkanah. When the church split about 1850, John went with the
missionary wing of the Baptist church. He served as a Civil Magistrate in
Patrick County, Virginia prior to 1850. John owned as many as 12
slaves.
John served a term as an Ensign during the War of 1812 and was
stationed at Norfolk, Virginia.
The listed birth and death dates above come from the gravestone where
John is buried. His grandson - William Turner - writing in 1914 listed
John's birth as September 21, 1779 and his death as May 20, 1874.
There remains confusion as to the children of Rev. John Turner and his
first cousin John Turner, Jr. - son of John M. Turner and Elizabeth
"Betsy" Price. The listing used in this compilation is based on the above
referenced letter by William Turner identifing Rev. John's family.
Other researchers in Patrick and Henry Counties, Virginia using birth,
death, and census records believe that Ruth Turner, Nancy Tate Turner,
and Elizabeth Jane Turner belong to the family of John Turner, Jr. and
should not be listed here.
John married (1) Nancy BURNETT-921, daughter of John BURNETT
Sr.-360 and Elizabeth TATE-469 on 15 Oct 1804 in Patrick Co., VA.
Nancy was b. 15 Mar 1788 in Hanover Co., VA. She d. 19 Nov 1872 in
Patrick Co., VA.  The birth and death dates listed above for Nancy are
from her gravestone.   A grandson - William Turner - in a letter from
1914 gave a birth date of August 15, 1787 and a death date of November
19, 1871. John and Nancy had the following children:

Turner, Cemetery, Patrick Co., VA.
Elkanah was a successful farmer and trader in discounted interest-bearing
paper. He had as many as 15 slaves at one time.Widely recognised,
Elkanah served a term as a Civil Magistrate and was Land Valuing
Commissioner for Patrick County, Virginia.
Elkanah served as a Major in the county militia and entered service near
the end of the War of Northern Aggression. He fought at Appomattox,
Virginia.  He lost his estate as a result of the war and worked hard to
rebuild his position afterwards becoming a depot agent.
Elkanah d. of dropsey at age 76 years unmarried.
            272      F      xi.      Elizabeth Jane TURNER-1186 was b. 23 Aug
1825 in Henry Co., VA. She d. 1906 in Henry Co., VA. Elizabeth married 
(1) George WOODY-1187 on 28 Sep 1840 in Patrick Co., VA.
George was b. about 1800. He d. 15 Feb 1856. Elizabeth also married (2)
Addison L. "Adda" JARRETT-1188 about 1858. Addison was b. about
1820. He d. 1913. Adda and Elizabeth had 5 or 6 children.

Dec 1826 and d. 23 Oct 1905.
