Cemetery, Patrick Co., VA. Sarah married (1) Richard R. "Chesley"
RAKES-6807, son of Samuel Jackson RAKES-4407 and Lucinda
NOWLIN-4403 on 5 Jan 1854 in Patrick Co., VA. Richard was b. 25 Oct
1827 in Patrick Co., VA. He d. 23 Jul 1905 in Patrick Co., VA.
Richard enlisted with the Confederate States of America during the War
of Northern Aggression joining the 51st. Virginia Infantry. He was taken
prisoner by Union forces at Waynesboro, Virginia on 3/2/1865. He was
transferred through Harpers Ferry and Winchester to Ft. Delaware POW
Camp 3/12-1865. Richard was released from there 6/21/1865.
Richard is listed in military records with dark hair, dark complexion,
dark eyes and 6'-0" tall.
