Did you see this on Roots-L? I read the book many years ago and had
forgotten this. I think it explains our feelings about family lines far
better than, certainly, I could ever express.

From: How Green Was My Valley by Richard Lewellyn

I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me, those who are to come. I
looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in
front, to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond.
And their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they had felt, and were to feel, as then, so now, as to-morrow
and forever.
Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning,
and no end, and the hand of his father grasped my father's hand, and his
hand was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand, and all, up and down
the line that stretched from Time That Was, to Time That Is, and is not yet,
raised
their hands to show the link, and we found that we were one, born of Woman,
Son of Man, had in the Image, fashioned in the Womb by the Will of God, the
Eternal Father.
I was of them, they were of me, and in me, and I in all of them."

Sometime back, I'd have to pull up records to quote exactly, there was a
posting of the very early Turner line beginning with a Richard Turner who
was the father of John, who was the father of our Shadrack. The lady cited
either Orange County, or Caroline County, Va Order Books as the source of
her info, later promising to send copy's of them. I just wondered if anyone
had received them, or had checked them out.

For David: This is what I have in my files on Arthur Via. I have deleted
the birthdates of those who are probably living today. I believe this info
came off this list about a year or so ago.

I would appreciate any help on the following Turners. I suspect they
were related. I am descended from John.
        Benjamin, b.~1738, m. Mollie Knox
        Mathias, b. 1758
        John Harbinger, b. ~1786 SC/NC?, m. Hediah Rives
John's children were born in Cass/Bartow Co, GA.
Is there a connection with Meshack?

THanks a bunch for any tidbit of information on these folks!

"If I had my chlidren to raise over again,
I'd finger paint more, and point the finger less.
I'd do less correcting, and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch,
 and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less, and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious, and serioulsy play.
I would run through more fields
 and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging, and less tugging.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I'd teach less about the love of power,
and more about the power of love".

I'VE LEARNED.......

I've learned that I like my teacher because she cries when we sing
  "Silent Night." Age 6

I've learned that you can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of
  milk. Age 7

I've learned that when I wave to people in the country, they stop what
they are doing and wave back. Age 9

I've learned that just when I get my room the way I like it, Mom makes
me clean it up. Age 13

I've learned that if you want to cheer yourself up, you should try
cheering someone else up. Age 14

I've learned that although it's hard to admit it, I'm secretly glad my
parents are strict with me. Age 15

I've learned that silent company is often more healing than words of
 advice. Age 24

I've learned that brushing my child's hair is one of life's great
  pleasures. Age 26

I've learned that wherever I go, the worlds worst drivers have
  followed me there. Age 29

I've learned...that if someone says something unkind about me, I must
live so that no one will believe it. Age 39

I've learned that there are people who love you dearly but just don't
know how to show it. Age 41

I've learned that you can make someone's day by simply sending them a
  little card. Age 44

I've learned that the greater a person's sense of guilt, the greater
his need to cast blame on others. Age 46

I've learned that children and grandparents are natural allies. Age
  47

I've learned that singing "Amazing Grace" can lift my spirits for
  hours. Age 49

I've learned that motel mattresses are better on the side away from
  the phone. Age 50

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he handles
these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas
  tree lights. Age 52

I've learned that keeping a vegetable garden is worth a medicine
cabinet full of pills. Age 52

I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents,
you miss them terribly after they die. Age 53

I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a
  life. Age 58

I've learned that if you want to do something positive for your
children, try to improve your marriage. Age 61

I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. Age 62

I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catchers mitt
on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back. Age 64

I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if
you focus on your family, the needs of others, your work, meeting new
people, and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you. Age
  65

I've learned that whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually
make the right decision. Age 66

I've learned that everyone can use a prayer. Age 72

I've learned that it pays to believe in miracles. And to tell the
truth, I've seen several. Age 73

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one. Age
  82

I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone.
People love that human touch-holding hands, a warm hug, or just a
friendly pat on the back. Age 85

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn. Age 92

Please pass this on to someone you care about. Sometimes they just
need a little something to make them smile....
