released on parole 19 May 1780. The records showed he was a resident
of Halifax Co., VA when he enlisted; he was age 64 in 1818. His
deposition was taken by Waddy Thompson in Laurens District, SC where
he was living in 1818, 1820, and 1821. He was awarded a pension.

Lost discharge papers. One of those testifying on his behalf was
William Irby. In 1821 he refers to his wife aged 47 years old. No further
data on

This appears to be the will of the Rev. Soldier Thomas.

Queries re Halifax Co., VA of Allison Stanhope (smaps@midrivers.com):

Turner, Dillard --I am researching the Turner family of Halifax

the
following children: William, George, William Dillard, Frances,

Adams, Boyd--I am researching the Adams family out of Halifax Co.

Marriage of James Turner to Sarah Irby on 27 June 1780 in Halifax Co.,
VA.

Researchers of the James Turner/Kerenhappuch Norman Turner family say
it was James Turner Jr. who was married to Sarah Irby as his second
wife and that he had been married first to a Wyatt. They list a son
of James Turner Jr. and Sarah Irby as Anthony I. (Irby) Turner. They
say James Turner Jr. moved to NC and then to Maury Co., TN about 1805
and died there in 1809. Not confirmed by me. Was there another James
Turner who was married to the Wyatt?
*****
Can anyone give me the full transcriptions for the following will
records? I was given some abstracts but there are clearly some errors
in the ones I was given so need confirmation, corrections and
additions.

James Turner, Will dated 8 July 1785 in Halifax Co., VA named
legatees: sons Armstreet (Armistead); Bozell (Boswell), Abner,
Martin, Ransom; sons Fanny/Frances, Susannah, Elizabeth. Executors
brother William, friend Thomas Manfield, friend Moses Turner.
Witnesses: Thomas Turner, William Hold [Holt?], Barnett Turner, James
Turner.

[Descendants of this family say this is the James Turner who married
Mary McMahaney on 17 Feb 1763. Abner, Boswell and Martin removed to
GA. Martin married Sally Stanfield on 24 Dec 1798; Ransom may be the
one who married Sally Link on 26 Oct 1801 in Halifax Co., VA]

William Turner, Will dated 5 October 1795 in Halifax Co., VA named
legatees wife Sarah, sons John, Barnett, James, Joseph, William,
Moses; son-in-law John Bartlett; daughters Caty, Mildred, Nancy,
Susannah, Rachel, deceased daughter Lucy Bartlett. Executors son
Moses and son-in-law James Bartlett.

[Descendants of Abner and Boswell Turner say this William Turner was
the brother of James (will dated 8 Jul 1785, and thus uncle of Abner
and Boswell]

Tandy Turner, Will dated 8 Mar 1793 in Halifax Co., VA. Legatee,
brother Thomas Turner. [Is this the Thomas Turner who was a Rev.
Soldier who moved to Laurens Co., SC where he applied for a pension in
1818. His will named among others a nephew Tandy Griffin; Champness
Turner; Elizabeth Reynolds.]

Subj:	Frustrating Foley Family!
Date:	98-01-15 19:56:54 EST
From:	HarrisSEM
To:	NCreed1

Thanks to everyone who has been helping out with the Foley family! I am late
in responding because I have had to work a lot lately. I can't stand it when
work gets in the way of the rest of my life!

It looks like there does need more work to be done on the Foleys and the
Sneeds.

The reason that I associated the Foleys with the Sneeds is because on Martha
J. Lackey's death certificate, it says that Martha J. Lackey's parents were "
Sam Snead" and that her mother's maiden name was "----Foley". The
information was given by Martha's son, William E. Lackey.

I have Martha's marriage record that says that her parents were " Sam'l and P.
Sneed"

Here are the census records that I have from a long time ago:

1850 CENSUS -Patrick Co., Va
visit 93
Samuel Sneed, Jr- 23
Mary "" -25
Judith '' -3
Carroll '' -2
Martha '' - 6/12 <---- my Martha

visit 101
Samuel Sneed, Sr - 57
Elizabeth '' - 45 ( 2nd wife, Elizabeth Moran -married in 1849 )
Francis '' - 15

visit 102
James Foley , Sr - 54 ( Eunice Kirkman provided good further info on him in
                                      comp 337)
Judith "" - 52
A female name that I can't read " - 18
Elizabeth '' - 10
( there may be more, but this is all I copied)

1860 CENSUS
visit 408
Samuel Sneed - 36
Mary "" - 27 ( ?)
Judith '' - 13

'' Samuel J. - 4/12

visit 28

'' Mary -28 (?)
'' Carroll -23
'' Samuel- 18

1880 CENSUS
visit 134
Sneed, Samuel 50, 52, or 53 ( kind of blurry!)
 '' Mary - 49
'' female ( Leticia?) - 14
'' female - 12 ( can't read these last two names because a piece of tape was
put on the document when it was microfilmed )
Martin, William J.- 11

So why would William E. Lackey say that his mother's maiden name was Foley?
Was the mysterious Mary with the magical ages listed as Samuel's wife all
those years actually Mary Wright as mentioned by Eddie Vaden? Was her
nickname Polly (Poley)? Poley is listed as being age 54 when she died in
1894. That would have made Polly born around 1840. Mary's ages ( I'll go
with the 1850 and 1880 censuses because they make more sense ) would put her
being born around 1825-1831. So that doesn't seem to agree either! Also
according to the Patrick Co., marriage records sent to me by Nettie and Eddie,
it says "Samuel Sneed, s/o Samuel Sneed Sr. & Jane Sneed, and Nancy Wright,
d/o John N. & Elizabeth Wright, m 4 Aug 1853". But my Samuel Sneed Jr was the
son of Samuel Sneed Sr and his first wife, Esther Turner. So, there must have
been at least 2 Samuel Sneeds at about the same time.

Very confusing. If any one has any clarification on any of this, I would
really appreciate any help. Hope I haven't confused anyone any further
either! Thanks again for everyone's help!

Sherry
