It's just me, again. Anyone got any additions and
corrections on the compilations already sent? We need to find
something for David to do next.
I'm sure everyone is searching for their own line. I've
noticed that several folks have asked about their line, which are
mentioned in later messages.

Here is my listing of the PEDIGO family, one of the early settler
families of Patrick and Henry Counties in Virginia. Additions and
corrections are appreciated.

Descendants of Joseph PEREGOY
First Generation
1. Joseph PEREGOY. Joseph married (1) Sarah MUMFORD.
They had the following children:

Second Generation
2. Henry PEREGOY died 1765 in Fredrick Co., VA. Henry married
(1) Amy GREEN.
They had the following children:
+ 3 M i. Robert "Robin" PEREGOY (PEDIGO) was born
1726/1728 and died 19 Jan 1822.
+ 4 M ii. Edward "Edwin" PEREGOY (PEDIGO) was born
25 Dec 1730 and died 26 Apr 1835.
+ 5 M iii. Henry PEREGOY.
6 M iv. Joseph PEREGOY.
7 M v. Elijah (poss. Andrew) PEREGOY. The name
Andrew exists in Maryland records instead of Elijah. The name
Elijah comes from a family bible belonging to one of Edward's
grandsons. Elijah married (1) Alice EDWARDS about 1750. Alice was
from Baltimore, MD.
Henry also married (2) Providence CORBIN on 14 Jan 1745.
Third Generation
3. Robert "Robin" PEREGOY (PEDIGO) was born 1726/1728 in
Perigord, France. He died 19 Jan 1822 in Henry Co., VA. Robert
was listed as a Tory during the Revolutionary War. He did not
fight. The public sale of Robert's estate dated 12 Feb 1822 in
the Henry County Will Book #3, page 23-24 includes a list of
his five younger children. Names of all children are taken from
quitclaims recorded in the 1823 Henry Co. Deeds Book. Robert
married (1) Mary ELKINS, daughter of ___ ELKINS. Mary is the
sister of Hannah who married Robert's brother Edward.
Robert and Mary had the following children:

10 M iii. Elijah PEDIGO was born about 1773.

4. Edward "Edwin" PEREGOY (PEDIGO) was born 25 Dec 1730 in
Perigoid, France. He died 26 Apr 1835 in near Pleasant Hi, ll,
KY. Edward settled in Maryland with his family around 1745 after
arriving from France. He fought in the French and Indian Wars
from 1754 to 1763 though only the pay records from 1758 still
exist. Edward first enlisted during the Revolutionary War on 13
February 1778 for a one year term and in December 1778 he signed
up for the duration of the war. Edward adopted the name Pedigo
sometime after 1809 in response to local spellings and
pronounciations of his name. Edward lived to be 105 years old.
Edward married (1) Hannah ELKINS, daughter of ___ ELKINS.
Hannah died in near Pleasant Hi, ll, KY. Hannah is the sister of
Mary who married Edward's brother Robert. Edward and Hannah had
the following children:
+ 19 M i. Joseph PEDIGO was born 3 May 1761 and
died 14 May 1866.
20 M ii. Levi PEDIGO was born about 1763 in VA.
He died 21 Aug 1816 in Barren Co., KY.

He died 21 Oct 1810 in Barren Co., KY.

23 F v. Bathsheba PEDIGO was born about 1778 in
Henry Co., VA. Bathsheba married (1) Nathaniel COCHRAN on 12 Jan
1789 in Patrick Co., VA.

Henry Co., VA. Elijah along with his wife and baby drowned in
Smith's River. Elijah married (1) Sally HALL.

19. Joseph PEDIGO was born 3 May 1761 in Halifax Co., (later
Henry), VA. He died 14 May 1866 in Barren Co., KY. Joseph moved
to Kentucky from Virginia in 1805 and settled near Pleasant Hill
where he bought 250 acres. Joseph married (1) Dorothy EDWARDS on
1783.
They had the following children:
45 M i. John PEDIGO , Maj. was born 1796 in VA.
He died 1869.
+ 46 M ii. William PEDIGO was born 1790 and died
1885.
47 F iii. Polly PEDIGO was born in VA. Polly
married (1) ___ HUTTON.

married (1) ___ TAYLOR.

Little Barren River, KY. Joseph was murdered and thrown into
Hambleton's mill pond.

died after 1891.
22. Abel PEDIGO was born about 1770 in Pittsylvania Co., (later
Henry), VA. Abel married (1) Susannah ROSS, daughter of Daniel
ROSS Sr. and Betty GARTH on 17 Sep 1792 in Franklin County, VA.
Susannah was born 1774.
They had the following children:

34. John Fountain PEDIGO , Capt. was born in VA. John was a
merchant as well as a planter. During the War of Northern
Aggression John served as sheriff of Henry Co. Virginia and
distributor of supplies to war widows and orphans.
John married (1) Martha GRAVELY, daughter of Lewis GRAVELY Jr.
and Sarah SHERILL.
They had the following children:
62 F i. Emma PEDIGO was born in VA.
63 M ii. Lewis Gravely PEDIGO , Dr. was born in
Henry Co., VA. Lewis practiced medicine in Henry Co. and later
Roanoke Virginia. He was arthor of the book History of Patrick &
Henry Counties Virginia. Lewis married (1) Caroline MARTIN.
Caroline was born in Franklin Co., VA. Caroline was an
english teacher in Salem, VA. John also married (2) Rachael
GRAVELY, daughter of Lewis GRAVELY Jr. and Sarah SHERILL.
Rachael was the sister of John's first wife Martha.
John and Rachael had the following children:
+ 64 M iii. J. Edward PEDIGO.
35. Elijah PEDIGO was born 1810 in VA. He died after 1885 in
Warren Co., TN and was buried in Pedigo Cemetery, Warren Co., TN.
Elijah married (1) Martha MOSS. Martha was born in Warren Co.,
TN. They had the following children:

1832 and died Oct 1908.
+ 66 F ii. Eliza Jane PEDIGO was born Apr 1836 and

Cemetery, Dekalb Co., TN. William married (1) Amanda LEFEVRE,
daughter of Abraham LEFEVRE and Mary Ann BURTON on 31 Oct 1867 in
Dekalb Co., TN. Amanda was born 21 May 1850 in Dekalb Co., TN.
They had the following children:

24 Feb 1936.

53. Edward PEDIGO was born 15 Apr 1805 in Patrick Co., VA. He
died after 1891. Edward was 5 months old when his parents and a
group of aunts and uncles left Virginia for Kentucky. He left
Kentucky around 1830 eventually ending up in Washington state in
1871. He had the following children:
87 M i. George Edward PEDIGO was born about
1818.
88 F ii. Zerelda Jane PEDIGO. Zerelda married (1)
___ HENDRIX.

54. Lewis R. PEDIGO was born 1794 in Patrick Co., VA. Lewis
married (1) Sarah HARBOUR, daughter of David HARBOUR and Esther
CRANK on 1810. Sarah was born about 1794. They had the following
children:
90 M i. Henry Clay PEDIGO. Henry was a
distinguished jurist in Harden Co., TX. He married there but had
no children.
+ 91 M ii. Albert Gallatin PEDIGO was born 1821.
+ 92 M iii. John Harden PEDIGO was born 13 Nov 1823
and died 30 Sep 1920.
+ 93 M iv. Ira Pulaski PEDIGO.
+ 94 M v. David Floyd PEDIGO , Dr..
95 M vi. Abram L. PEDIGO was born 1838. He died
1908 in Martinsville, Henry Co., VA. Abram was a Union
sympathiser. He went to Ohio after Virginia seceeded from the
United States at the beginning of the War of Northern Aggression.
While in Ohio, Abram was elected mayor of Hillsville, Ohio. He
returned to Henry Co., Virginia after the war. Abram was a member
of the Virginia General Assembly in the 1880's and he served in
the 1898 Virginia Constitutional Convention as leader of the
minority party - Republican.
96 M vii. Joseph Read PEDIGO.
97 M viii. Norborne Elijah PEDIGO.
98 M ix. Mack Robert PEDIGO was born in Patrick
Co., VA. He died in Patrick Co., VA.
99 M x. Benjamin Franklin PEDIGO.

55. Daniel P. PEDIGO was born 5 Jul 1798 in Patrick Co., VA. He
died 19 Jun 1877 in Elamsville, Patrick Co., VA. Daniel has also
been listed by some researchers with the middle initial R. Daniel
married (1) Mary Agnes BOAZ, daughter of James BOAZ and Ann
RUSSELL on 10 Jan 1824. Mary was born 10 Aug 1804 in Patrick Co.,
VA. She died 9 Jun 1875 in Patrick Co., VA. They had the
following children:

1828 and died 13 Nov 1913.

DAVID: My high school principal (Woodrow Wilson H.S., Beckley,
Raleigh Co, WV) was Mr. Peregoy. (I believe his initials were
G. C., but could be mistaken. I can verify if anyone is
interested.) Lots of families from southwestern VA settled in
Raleigh Co. Nyla
