I read with interest Kevin's reference to Pittsylvania, VA roots.
I would be so very interested in the information he finds. My
Burnett's were also from the same county.

James Burnett b. ab 1720/1730 Ireland d. Pitts Co.,VA 1797 m. 3
times -- Mary Morrison, Miss Watson & Margaret Robinson

Children of Mary Morrison b. 1750, d 1797 Pittsylvania Co, VA:
George Burnett, 9/26 1770, Pitts Co., VA; John Burnet 1760,
William Burnett 6/02,1772; Mary "Polly" Burnett, 1774; James
Cunning Ham Burnett 4/25, 1776; Margaret Peggy Burnett; Elizabeth
Burnett.

George Burnett b. 9/26,1770 in Pitts Co. va., M. Dorothy Hardeman
2/11/1802 in Gen. M. Davidson Co, TN, d. Clay Co. MO, 2/22/1838.
Children of that marriage were:

Peter Hardeman Burnett 1807; George William Burnett 1811;
Elizabeth Ann Burnett 1813; Mary Henry Jones Burnett 1843; James
White Burnett 1821; Thomas Smith Burnett 1823 (Note: Above Peter
WAS 1st Gov. of CA.)

Glen Owen Burnett b. 1810 married Sarah M. Rogers 1/6/1830 in
Hardeman Co, TN. and died in Santa Rosa, CA - date unk - I do
not know all the names of their children -- only my great, great
grandmother: Martha E. Burnett, b. 12/11/1830 in Tennessee and
married Daniel Saunders Holman in Oregon on August 31, 1847.
They had 14 children -- one of whom was Mary Ellen Holman
who married William Burke Turner.

I have pictures and copies of letters from both of these
families. Also have several books that are interesting and
outline family history.

Thanks for your patience in reading this. :)

Nyla---
I have a request for some expertise from anyone who is
more knowledgeable about it than I am...I'm gonna send you a
batch of my stuff, can you explain to me how to use reference
numbers? Is there a standardized way of doing it that I've not
been exposed to? I have copies of source documents on most of my
Kentucky research, but don't get how to reference it. Is it a
standard footnote system, or something else?

By the way...I've located a copy of the 1820 court entry I
referred to earlier linking my family to Pittsylvania County,
Virginia...I am going to have the will and the deed researched to
get the exact connection. This will hopefully be the final link
to the rest of the Burnett's in my line clear back to Scotland!

Let me know what you need in the way of reference #'s,
footnotes, etc., and I'll send you what I have soon. :)

Dear Chris and Nyla,

I have assembled all 68 of the compilations up to this point
in a "zipfile" that can be downloaded and unzipped for any new
group members who may be coming on line...it also includes the
Turner Family Bible and Genealogy Resources document from Chris's
homepage. I thought this might be helpful, as I have WinZip 95
on my computer. Anyone who has PKZip or Winzip95 on their
computer can unzip these files into a directory and bring them up
with any word processor. I use Word 95, but these are in text
format as they were when you posted them...Let me know what you
think!!!

Dear Nyla,

Through the cooperation of you, Ricky Burnett, and Harold
Coffman, I've managed to link James Cunningham Burnett with 95%
certainty to the Thomas Burnett line of Scotland, and have the
line branched laterally through Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri,
Oregon, Illinois, California, Kansas, Virginia, and Texas, with
more to check on!! I'm going to be working most of the day
tomorrow (when I'm not eating turkey) to adding the information
to my tree, and preparing it to send to you for the group. I
also have Family Tree Maker, version 3.40, and will attempt to
use one of its file formats to compile the data. The book that
Harold Coffman mentioned, "Cain-Burnett Kin", is a little hard to
decipher, but it has a wealth of well-documented and referenced
information. It turns out my hunch about James C., George, and
Samuel Burnett being brothers was right on!!
I'm gonna try to compare what I have, this new info, and your
compilations to date, and see if we have any secondary links I
need to make before I send you the data, but when I send it, it
will probably be enough for a couple of compilations!! I don't
know yet if my line and yours are linked, but I suspect they
probably are, either in Virginia or Scotland.
Did you get my message OK earlier this evening? I sent you a
copy of all 68 of the compilations in a zip-file, along with a
copy of WinZip 95, to make it easier for the newbies to download
everything we have to date. That message could've taken awhile
to download, sorry if it messed anything up.
Bette--I have info on everyone you mentioned in your message
in the stuff I just got from Harold...watch for the compilation
in the next few days, after I get it ready and send it to Nyla!!

Thanks, everyone, for your help!!! We succeeded!!!!
