Glad to have another Francis Turner descendant on the list, and
to have your submission complete with references--particularly
with references. I am a descendant of both Francis Turner and
Shadrack Turner. I haven't had time to look through your
descendant list thoroughly yet. I can add a few items for you
now.
My cousin has the Adam Turner Bible which is in poor condition.
Her son, who is a photographer took pictures of the pages which
had entries and sent them to me. I am in the process of writing
a family book, going very slowly, slowly.... I posted the
information on Nyla's list a couple of weeks ago. There was no
Martha as a child of Adam. The child was Matthew. I know that
Frieda never saw the Bible, in fact, I don't know of anyone
living today who has but my cousin and her mother. Somehow the
information got around that the child was Martha, misread I
suppose.
John Greenville Turner's marriage date was 13 January 1861 in
Patrick County, VA [reference family records, and O. E. Pilson's
Family Group Sheet for Francis Turner, Jr.] John Greenville
Turner was my maternal ggrandfather.
Isaac Alexander (Alex) Nolen b. 11 Sep 1840, d. 21 Feb 1923 m.
Judie Ann Turner [we always caller her Grandma Judy, thinking it
was Judith, perhaps it was, but the headstone reads Judie--I will
check this out], 22 Mar 1857, d. 25 Sept 1960. Isaac Edward (Ed)
Nolen b. 10 Feb 1877, d. 10 June 1936. Isaac and Judy were
married 5 September 1872 in Floyd County. Ed Nolen married Ada
Emily Foley (a twin) b. 8 Aug 1883, d. 22 Feb 1901 (Typhoid
Fever); married 6 Apr 1899. Ada is buried in the James Marshall
Foley cemetery in Elamsville becide her twin sister. Ada's
parents were Mary Ann Witt, b. 16 Jul 1852, d. 12 Feb 1927 and
James Marshall (Marsh) Foley, b. 15 Oct 1857 d. 29 Jul 1927.
Their only child, Colonel George Marshall Nolen, b. 1 Mar 1900 in
Roanoke, VA, d. 20 Nov 1987, Melbourne, FL, buried in Arlington
National Cemetery; m. on 4 June 1931 Martinsville, VA, Georgie
Lee Turner, b. 5 June 1901, PCVA, died 17 Jan 1995, Rockledge, FL
buried Arlington National Cemetery; my parents. Georgie Lee
Turner was daughter of Alva Jeremiah Turner (descendant of
Shadrach Turner) and Nancy Jane Turner (descendant of Francis
Turner). These data come from family records, headstone photos
which I took, marriage licenses, birth and death certificates,
and personal recollections of my mother (who could rattle off
PCVA data without stop and be 100% accurate), and my
recollections.
I plan to submit my family data as soon as I get time to correct
my source data. These were scrambled quite badly by my software.
