Subject: Burnett - Turner lines

Hi Nyla -

I've only read through the first eleven compilations, so my
questions may
have already been answered. I'm searching for information on my
wife's great
grandfather:

    William M. BURNETT
        b. 10-Jun-1814 in TN
        d. 14-Apr-1881 in Sevier Co., TN
   m. Letitia SHARP on 21-Mar-1838 in Blount Co., TN
      ** b. 10-Jun-1822 in Blount Co., TN
           d. (date and place unknown)

Letitia's mother was Susanna Maxwell Sharp and I have her
birthday also as 10-Jun-1882, so one is wrong and I think it's
probably Susanna's. Family lore has a Cherokee Indian somewhere
in the line, but nobody knows just which line or where, or even
which sex, but late speculation is that it was Susanna.

Some of this information is from the book, "Burnett-Parsons
Ancestral Lines." Not much family history available and
although quite a bit in the LDS CD-ROMs on his wife's line,
nothing on him.

Interestingly, William M. was listed in the 1850 census as a
Baptist preacher with no property, and in the 1870 census as a
schoolteacher with property and a live-in maid. Same wife and
kids, so it must be him. The only William M. I could find in
the LDS CD-ROMs was a William M. whose birthday was
25-May-1814, and despite the obvious discrepancy in birth dates,
I thought it might be him, but his parents are listed as Charles
and Annie Ray Burnett and I can't find them anywhere else.

Good hunting -

John E. Price :-)

David, I have a few notes, questions, and comments pertaining to
your ROSS Family Listing.

#8. Daniel ROSS, Sr - I am interested in obtaining proof as to
his birthdate and father, Milton ROSS. I have thought that the
PATRICK-HENRY ALLIED FAMILIES records were showing a different
father.

#61. Malinda ROSS and Edward Field/Feild JEFFERSON - I can
provide a listing of all their children if you are interested.

#169. Ella Virginia JEFFERSON - Her husband, Joseph Martin Clark
was the son of Jacob CLARK and JANE STOVALL (not Nancy!). Jane's
parents were Brett STOVALL and Nancy HUGHES, with Nancy being the
daughter of Archelaus HUGHES and Mary DALTON, daughter of Samuel
DALTON.

#142. Mary ROSS married Jacob S. CLARK, a son of Jacob CLARK &
Jane STOVALL.

Thanks much ... we finally talked Carl into getting his own email
address and he's fascinated with it. I've enjoyed reading the
reports and passing them along to Carl, but this will make it
much more interesting for him and he'll have items to add to the
Turner tree.

Gracias,
Holt

Hello Holt,

We'll miss you, but glad to hear Carl is onLine. Hope to
hear from him soon. That was really generous of you to pass along
the information to him. You deserve a GOLD STAR for doing that.

        Nyla

Howdy Nyla (and Cousins):

Just got Comp. 90, and I have more to add re: the GOODEs.

Unfortunately, though, my computer is in the shop having the
internal hard drive scrubbed and reformatted following a crash
and burn session last weekend (18 Jan 97). _Fortunately_, though,
no data was lost, as I had just made a complete system backup not
30 minutes before the crash! (Whew!)

As soon as I get myself back online, I'll add more to David's
notes. But for now, I'm keeping busy wading through boxes of
misc. papers and filing them in their appropriate folders. I
can't _wait_ to get busy again in inputting all these notes...Oh,
the joy of re-discovery! :-)

I _can_ add a couple of misc. things, though [all numbers are
from Cousin David Jones' listing]:

[Sixth Generation from David GOODE (c1740-1819)]

110. Mary WYATT was born 1895. She died 1954. Mary married
William COTTLE. William was born 1890. He died 1953.
They had the following children:

     + 115 _M_ (not F) i. Pearl Joseph COTTLE was born 1923.

Seventh Generation

115. Pearl COTTLE was born 1923. Pearl married (1) Zelma
_DAVIS_. Zelma was born 1925. They had the following children:
     + 116 F i. Martha COTTLE was born 1947. Martha
married (1) Alfred RICHMOND. Alfred was born 1943. He died 1979.

116a M i. Tony Allen RICHMOND was born 1966. He's still
breathing.

More as I get it put together to send.

Thanks!
Allen

Hello Nyla: I was given your name by a researcher who thought
you might be of assistance.

I have been researching the name Steagall for a friend/cousin in
Brazil. Edward Steagall m. Martha Williams Bobbitt c.1820.
Martha's parents were Turner Bobbitt and Elizabeth Bowdon Bobbitt
of Franklin Co. NC. Elizabeth was the dau. of John Bowdon and
Judith Farrar Bowdon. Judith was the dau. of George Farrar and
Judith Jefferson.

I have not been successful in researching Edward Steagall's
lineage. Edward and Martha Steagall had at least two sons, Henry
Farrah Steagall and Thomas Turner Steagall.

It is thought that Turner Bobbitt's ancestor was a Thomas Turner.

There was in late 1600s a Thomas Turner of Isle of Wight who had
land dealings with Raiford and Pearce. Pearce is a name
associated with the Steagall family (apparently by lineage
because Henry Steagall named a son William Pearce Steagall).
Henry Steagal's wife was Delia Peck, granddau. of Lazarus
Crawford of Johnston Co. NC (1744-1818). The Raiford were VERY
close to the Crawford in Johnston Co and were neighbors on the
Neuse River.

Records for Johnston CO. NC were destroyed prior to late 1700s.
In 1731 Lord Granville granted to a Lazarus Turner land on the
Neuce River of Johnston Co. NC.

Can you help me sort through the Thomas Turner and Lazarus Turner
connections to this family group? Or, do you know someone who
may be able to suggest an area of research.
