One huge .ged file (and use a converter to display it as html pages)
would be a great resource. I look forward to the day that I get my
Burnetts linked back to Virginia (or where ever they were before
Kentucky).

I would be happy to eventually provide my Burnett records as a .ged.

Thanks for all the hard work!

The beauty of having mailing list software is that the folks on the list
have more control. You can unsubscribe yourself whenever you need to
(like for vacations) without having to wait for a human to get to your
request. :-)

To unsubscribe from the Digest send an email with the Subject:
"Unsubscribe" to:

btrvetc-d-request@genealogy.org

To unsubscribe from the Regular list, send an email with the Subject:
"Unsubscribe" to:

btrvetc-l-request@genealogy.org

These addresses work for subscribing, too. Just use "Subscribe" in the
Subject line instead of "Unsubscribe".

Posting address for either flavor of the list is btrvetc-l@genealogy.org

Happy Hunting!

Hello! First may I say thank you so much for all the pleasure you have
brought to me as a user of your newsletter. I will miss it but will
have a smile as I know you will be using your time for your own
research. I have in my ??? file a document of many pages on Turner
research in TN and MO sent to me by a hopeful lady, Barbara O'Brian.
She is a professional genealogist but not online. I wrote and asked her
permission to pass this on the someone who would connect. Would you
advise me as how this should be handled. I'm not committed to typing
this as it would take me hours beyond my capabilities as a typist as
well as being a newbie. Thanks for taking time to read this. Sandra
shansen@cyberhighway.net

Sandra:

Thanks for the nice words. I've enjoyed the past two years, but the
Compilations just outgrew itself and left me behind. <smile>

How many pages are you talking about that would have to be typed? Is your
copy a typed copy? If not too many pages, I probably could type it. Or, we
can find out who has a scanner that would be willing to scan the pages.
You'd probably need to send the person a really clear copy of the document to
scan.

By the way, I'll forward your message to our new address:

Is there some way we could simply download and save the whole digest
rather than having to do it peacemeal?

Also, would like to be able to simply check the items I would like to save
and do that in one operation.

If neither of these is possible, I can see that this is going to take a lot
more time. I am already feeling very pressured by things to do including
being very much behind in reading the compilations as a result of a number
of things incluyding a total computer meltdown from which I have yet to
completely recover.

Nyla,

Thanks for all your work to provide a facility wherein distant cousins can
share information. You've done a great job; the endurance of the
compilations and the beginning of the digest is testamony to that.

Hi, Folks,

Is there anyone who likes the digest format???

I don't like the muliple parts to the digest, and would prefer to have one
long message that I can then save, instead of the multiple parts.

I think Ann's two requests are incompatible with each other - I don't
think you can have one file and the option of saving parts of it. But I
don't pretend to know all email programs, so I might be putting my foot in
my mouth. :-) (You might be able to select one, and hold the shift key
down and select others, but whether you can save them all or not may be
another matter - that's assuming a PC, which is what I'm familiar with.)

I will try to set up a non-mime digest for the list, but I don't know how
long it will take, since I've not set one up before. It is the mime
aspect of it that is creating the parts.

In the meantime, you can get the digest file from the email server at
Genealogy Online by sending an email as follows

To: btrvetc-D-request@genealogy.org
Subject: archive
Message: get archive/volume98/1

1. Note the -D-request in the address.
2. Also, the word "archive" must be lowercase.
3. For the second issue, enter this in the message:
	get archive/volume98/2
4. Remove signature lines like the stuff below:

Christine Gaunt, cgaunt@umich.edu or gaunt@genealogy.org
Campbell-L and BTRVETC-L listowner
Co-compiler of Genealogy Resources on the Internet
       Web: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt/gen_int1.html
File (1.8M): via autoreply from gresinet.txt@genealogy.org

5. Then send the message. The server should send back the file which was
created, which has no parts to it. It is the email programs which are
interpreting the following line in the headers:
"MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/digest; boundary="----------------------------"
and breaking it up into parts.

I'll let you know when the non-mime digest is ready.

The Burnett-Turner-Ross-Via-Etc/Etc Mailing List has been automated. See
Compilations beginning with #341 for an explanation. Everyone on the mailing
list was automatically transferred to the new automated list You do not need
to do anything if you still want to receive the digest form (similiar to our
old compilation). However, you may want to take a look at the Welcome message
that was sent to everyone. There are many helpful tips which you may want to
refer to later.

P.S.
The btrvetc-L is an abbreviation for Burnett-Turner-Ros-Via-Etc.

As one of the "cousins" who has sat on the bleachers since signing up las=

fall, I am pleased to finally make a submission.

I wish to thank Nyla Creed et al who have been doing all this work - most=

of which (compilations especially) I have yet to absorb. I have been
combing through a variety of documents that I and my father have, and I
feel as if I'm only scratching the surface!

Shortly, I will be sharing my transcription efforts into Reunion with my
surviving aunts, father and first cousins, to see what more comes out of
their files.

I provide herein 7 generations of descendants of one Benjamin Burnap, b.
Reading, MA, 8 Jun 1677, in the hopes that there is a connection to one o=
r
more of all your Burnetts that I read about far south and west of New
England.

Benjamin Burnap was the son of Robert Burnap, Jr., who emigrated from
England at the age of 11 in 1638. Before emigrating, his father, Robert
Burnap, Sr., lived in Hodsden End, Great Amwell Parish, next to Stamstead=

Abbots. (The source for this paragraph is the "Burnap-Burnett Genealogy"=

by Henry Wykoff Belknap, Salem, MA, The Essex Institute, 1925, which is i=
n
the possession of one of my aunts.)

At the risk of overkill, here is Benjamin Burnap and descendants to my
grandfather, Dorr Theoren Burnett. Enjoy!

Best regards to all,

Jeff Burnett

Folks:

In case you have Texas Confedrate Veterans, you might be interested in the
following info I received today.

Nyla

In Texas, any Conf. Vet could receive a pension IF he lived in Texas for a
certain period of time and was living here at the time of the application.
He had to be nearly indigent or prove a disability connected to his
service. Most of the vets that I have personally looked up were from some
other state.

To search for your Vet the Texas State Library has a Webpage that is worth
the look even if you don't have a Conf. Vet. at this URL:
