Administrivia:
for the Burnett/Turner/Ross/Via/Etc Mailing List (BTRVETC-L)

Welcome to all our new subscribers; please send us a message to let us
know what lines you are working on. :-)

We became automated 19 Jan 1998, with everyone that had been on Nyla Creed
DePauk's list of subscribers being subscribed to the digest, which (kind)
replaces the compilations. There is also a regular list, where you
receive messages one at a time. If you wish that version, unsubscribe
from the digest, and subscribe to the regular list (see below).

Please do not send your emails to Nyla any longer; if you do, she will
send them to the list. Please post your messages to:

     btrvetc-l@genealogy.org (that's a lowercase ell, not a number one.)

***** Do not send attachments or multipart MIME messages to the list! *****
***** Send only plain text. Microsoft Outlook and Express seem to do *****
***** this without the poster knowing. Check your configuration. *****

Hi, Folks,

Here's how to change Netscape Communicator's configuration to send only
plain text:

Select Edit, then Preferences

Select Mail and Newsgroups by clicking on the little "plus" sign. You
should see 5 sub-items. Select Messages.

In the Messages box, make sure that the first check-box is NOT checked.
It is labeled "By default, send HTML messages."

Click OK.

If you are using Eudora Pro, Outlook Express, or Outlook 98, or need to
see the Netscape screen for Communicator, see the web page at:

http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm

The images are all small, but you can click on the one you need and get
an enlarged image.

Feel free to send a test message TO ME (not the list) at cgaunt@umich.edu.

To all Burnett Researchers:
For the reasons that have been stated in the last compulation, I do not
give my Genealogy to anyone. I don't share information with the Family
Tree Maker or the LDS Library. I put all that blood sweat and tears
into that research. I can't stand people who profit from my hard work.
I started doing research on my Genealogy, to discover just who and what
nationality my maiden name was. I have now solved that mystery. I am
proud of my name and my Heritage.
Has anyone checked out the Book by Susan Burnett. She lives in Scotland
and she shows in her Genealogy and connections to the Land of Leys a
John Burnett that came to America. It seems to fit our John. But I
don't have the proof.

Sorry but you never sent me all that info I gathered it of the Net I
have the letter you sent me that does list what you gave me.

And as far as removing anything down to me NO.

I can put up anything that deals with me my father his mother and so on
I dont belive you asked anyone in my family before you put my great
grandfathers name in a book to make money. I would say that is wrong.

So what you are saying is that anyone doing a Burnett tree has to stop
and Buy it from you.

Well I dont see how I stold anything from you I have never seen your
book and never will. You ask to much money for them.

I would like to know how you can own a Family Tree? It's as much my
right to share infomation that I have found on the INTERNET!( KEY WORD )
for free with other's that want it. Im sorry you wanted it for a money
making deal.

I care more about my family's past then the Dollars I can make off of
it.

If anyone would like to see what this is all about you can go to
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ridge/3270/

all the info I have can be found on the internet!!!!
you can also ask my family they will share with you what cant be found
on the net ( The same way I got it ).

And one more thing how can you tell me or anyone else not to take your
stuff ( which I have never seen ) when you sale it and now plan to go
online with it. Soon the whole world will have it, are you going to
write everyone?

All I can say to what Jerry is:

When a professional genealogist writes an extensive book on the genealogy
of one family and copyrights it, that person (June Bork in this case) has put
a lot of time and study into a ponderously intricate, DOCUMENTED work. Your
names are your own, and of course you CAN put anything you want online, but
not necessarily legally and CERTAINLY not ethically. The docmentation to prove
it and the time and effort put into the genealogical interaction as a WHOLE
comes under copyright. THEREFORE, if a large portion of it is plagerized, then
it is a prosecutable offense, which is why we HAVE copyrights in the first
place.
