I've been asked under what conditions the Veterans Affairs will donate a
monument to Civil War Vets. The only condition is that they fought in the
Civil War, and don't already have one, but they must have proof of service.
These are intended for unmarked, although identified, graves of Confederate
or Union soldiers.

The monuments are very nice. If you have the service record, some funeral
homes will apply for you, then set-up the stone when it arrives at no
charge. This takes about six months from the time of application. Even if
there is a reasonable installation fee, it is well worth it.

If you have a relative who fought in the Civil War, you know where he is
buried, and he has no grave marker, then do apply. It really isn't that
much trouble.

Good luck!

Hi, Folks,

I've modified the digest headers so that the digest should be sent out in
plain text rather than as multipart. Those of you who are on AOL should
see a difference in Issue 66. Please let me know if there are any
problems with this change. Thanks,
Chris

Hi fellow Rooters -

Searching for any information on my paternal grandmother Bessie Lee TURNER and
her husband, my grandfather, Thomas A. PRICE - especially any information on
their ancestors or possible siblings, and exactly where in Tennessee she was
born.

 Thomas A. PRICE
   b. 26-Apr-1862 Russellville, Logan Co., KY
   d. 01-Mar-1943 Abilene, TX

 Bessie Lee TURNER
   b. 13-Oct-1864 Tennessee
   d. 23-Nov-1941 Abilene, TX

Records show that they were married on 19-Sep-1883 in Sumner Co., TN, They
moved to Abilene, TX on 24-Dec-1894. Although census files and his obituary
show that Thomas was born in Logan Co., KY, whenever asked, my father, John E.
Price, Sr., always told people he and his father, Thomas, were from Bowling
Green, Warren Co., KY.

Thomas's Census listing shows my grandmother, Bessie, to have been born in
Tennessee, and her tombstone confirmed the vital dates. Her death certificate
did not show her father's name and only that her mother's maiden name was
TRIBUE, but that name is so unusual I wonder if it could possibly be a
misspelling or a variant of TRABUE, a French Huguenot family name. Her
obituary gave no information not already known, and shown here. A fellow
rooter found her marriage records and we found out for the first time her
middle name was Lee. Various middle initials had been used in different
records, but no name.

Have hit that well known brick wall on finding any information about either of
their parents or siblings. As always, will appreciate any and all information
and will be happy to share.

John E. Price (Jr.)
Ft. Worth, TX

Hi, again, Folks,

I just made a slight modification to the list configuration so that
messages coming from the list have the following header:

Reply-to: BTRVETC-L <btrvetc-l@genealogy.org>

I'd forgotten about case-sensitivity.

Hi everyone! A few months ago, I posted a search question about the Cox
family in Patrick County, VA. Since then, I have found more information and
thought you all might be able to help or that this may prove useful to someone
else. Here goes:

John "Johnnie" C. Lawson b. 1814 d. 1876 m. Keziah Cockran 9/23/1842. She was
born 1819 d. 10/28/1885.

They had a child named John Calvin Lawson b. 2/7/1848 d. 1/1/1924. He married
Louvenia Adline Hughes 4/16/1867 b. 2/6/1850 d. 9/14/1935.

They had a daughter named Mary Lurie Ellen Lawson b. 6/15/1877 d. 1950. She
married Jefferson Lee Cox 11/25/1897 b. 1875 d. 1942.

They had a son named John Fred Cox b. 8/22/1898 d. 3/22/1974. He married Ida
Agnes Slate 10/13/1917. b. 3/9/1901 d. 7/24/1990.

If anyone can provide any additional info about any one these people and their
families I would appreciate it! Thanks!!

I know I have some information on the Cox family, not the Lawson family in
VA. My husband's mother was a Lawson from Missouri who married a Hughes
there!! I'll try to look the Cox info up for you when I can. ANH
