I can't tell you about the Burnetts, but I hope this Williams file will give
you some clues. As you can see, some of it is presumptious, but most of it
was taken from public records of Patrick, Carroll, Floyd, and Montgomery
Counties.

1. --- Williams. We really don't know who this gentleman was, and there
seems to be little evidence of Samuel other than his
daughter, Rebecca's, death record. We include them together this way in
order to solidify the records. The name Williams was
plentiful in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. These men may not have
been brothers at all, but were likely cousins. Other
people are researching this family and it is possible we will have more
information in the very near future.

Elizabeth Burnett was the illegimate daughter of Anna Burnett, b. 1778
Va; d. 1847. Beings you gave the birth and death dates of the Williams
children, I am assuming you have their Bible Record. In there, it
states that Anna never married but had 3 children:
1. Rebecca Burnett; never married but had 3 sons
2. Elisha Burnett
3. Elizabeth Burnett, b. 20 May 1814; d. 23 Oct 1895.

The marriage of Elizabeth Burnett to David Williams was in Grayson Co,
Va. The Bondsman was Samuel Williams. David was son of Samuel Williams
Sr. and Anne Newman. Elizabeth's mother Anna Burnett gave her consent.

Sorry, I can't help with Missouri Williams. June

Shadrack1 and John1... Re-Visted
An attempt to tweak the birthdate of Shadrack... and children

John1 is thought to have been born in England in approx 1689. The
"Caroline" record would seem to place his death about 1742/43, yeilding
an approx lifespan of 54yrs... ie 1743 - 1689 = 54

The marriage date for John1 & Elizabeth Brashear (?), from Queen Ann's
Parish Record, July 01, 1718.
John would have been (1718 - 1689 = 29) married at 29yrs
Brashear tree would indicate that Elizabeth was b. July 16, 1699
(1718 - 1699 = 19) Married at 19yrs

Several DOB are offered for Shadrack1, believe 1720 to 1728 would
embrace all those offered.

This places John at 29yrs, and Elizabeth, 19yrs when married;
John 31yrs, Elizabeth 21yrs when Shadrack was born.
(Assuming the 1720 birthdate given for Shadrack is reasonably accurate)

This seems to be a good fit inasmuch as first child is generally born
1/2 years after marriage

With the marriage date, being only that appears to be sourced in a solid
foundation, would suggest any movement of above dates must be controlled
by same.

And note for the record, some still question John1 as that contained in
the Parrish record. Also, an additional marriage for Shadrack is
suggested.
Hope this accurately list all opposing views.

------
Shadrack...

The birthdate of 1720, is most offered for Shadrack. I know not it's
orgin.

Shadrack is assumed to have been at least 16yrs in 1742, (Based on
findings in Caroline record regarding assignment of orphans in 1742).
Therefore as a jumping off point, have Shadrack as (1742 - 16 = 1726).
1726 would be the latest birthdate for Shadrack, that will conform to
the assignment.

At this point would have:
Shadrack Turner, b. [1720-1726]
Married Ann abt 1745 (no source for this, tradiation?)
Shadrack was [19-25yrs] when married. Ann was ?? yrs
Children are:

John M. b.1747 d.1812
Elizabeth b.1750 d.1845
Josiah b. 1751 d.1838
William b.1753 d.1845
Mary b.1760 d.1810
Larkington b.1764 d.1825
Jeremiah b.1765 d.1830
Exony b.1771 d.1820-1830

Above dates are best available at this time to my knowledge. (Request
any and all corrections to any of above) The only date we can source
being William.

However, would suggest birthdates of children lack creditability. We
have a seven year reach between William and Mary, and six years between
Jeremiah and Exony... If I suggest that Ann would not likely bear
children after age of 50yrs, then it would follow that first child was
born approx 1721... and the last no later than 1754? This calculation
assumes Ann to be at least 16yrs at birth of Shadrack in 1720/21.

It is certainly possible that "stillborn" or otherwise early death has
caused additional children to go un-recorded. Two missing children for
Ann have been proferred, ?? Turner born before 1763 and died
before1783, and Minerva Turner... and of course these two could actually
be one in the same, rather than two. I dunno.

If Shadrack was married twice, it would seem that the "first" marriage
would have to the one of "no record" inasmuch as Shadrack's Will names
"Ann" as his wife, 1783/84. There is sufficent time frame to allow for
same, but I personally don't feel comfortable with two marriages for
Shadrack, and does naught to solve riddle of Shadrack's kids, as she
would be even older than "Ann".

Presently reviewing the DOB of Shadrack's kids... maybe there's
something there that I have missed.

Please share your thoughts with me... they don't have to be thoughts
inscribed in stone, just anything that might be, could be, should be
etc. I just need a fresh point of view, something else to consider.
And certainly any and all of the above is subject to correction and
encouraged...

Seems I never get it correct the first time... in my revisited posting:

"There is sufficent time frame to allow for same"
should read
"There isn't sufficent time frame"

aaah folks... just delete "Revisited" in total. It has some many
"typos" that it makes no sense at all !!!
Beg your pardon, will be more careful next time.

Shadrack Turner, et al birthdates revisited.
-----------------------------------------------
I don't have any thoughts regarding the birth dates.... Without something
concrete to base them on, anybody's guess is as good as mine. I gave up
long ago in trying to estimate. I got new data on one family not long ago
with birthdates taken from a family bible. I had to redo the entire tree.
Some dates that I had were off 30-40 years. Now, I only ca a date if I have
a family member's that is pretty certain.
The most we can do is figure that new generation is ca 20 years after the
last. Best we can do, and with the men fertile into the seventies, with
several wives that we don't know about, these children's ages can range from
2 to 40.
Case in point, my gr-gr-grandfather was 64 when he was widowed. He
remarried a nineteen year old, and sired 3 more children. He had
grandchildren in their teens when the first was born. And, think about it,
these last three children were four years apart. My gr-gr-grandmother was
14 when they married, 15 when her first child was born, she was 42 when she
died. Out of several births to them, only four reached adulthood. Typhoid
fever nearly wiped them all out.
I have copies of the Patrick County Death records from 1853-1896. If you go
through them, you'll see several children in a family dying within a few
days of each other from fever. I spotted more than a few families who lost
all of their children. They had no defences against these deadly fevers,
typhoid, diptheria, measles, and in very small children, the mumps. With
children going barefoot almost year round, roundworms and hookworms took
their toll. So, don't mourn for the "good old days." They weren't.
Didn't mean to climb a soapbox. Cheers, everybody!

Heavens Eunice... with Glenn's space venture and your gggrand, does this
mean I might still be available? Well, me thinks it's a great ego
builder, however the mirror reflects the sad state of affairs it would
be for anyone to make that connection with this ole man!

Still, your point is well made... can't help lifting the cornor of the
rug and looking, tho I know better. The period between Shadrack & Ann's
children William & Mary (abt.7yr) just bugs me. I know children are
there and as stated, keep lifting that rug :=) As you noted thyoid
seemed to raise havoc in SWVA in that time frame. It's gets my vote as
the #1 killer in this area...

Thanks for the input...

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the lists and want to introduce myself. My name is Sonny
Griffith, AKA Marvin Griffith, and I am researching the Griffith, Bryant,
Semones, Cochran, and Eanes lines, plus a considerable number of side
families some of which are Cannaday, Hall, Ingram, Lyon, Martin, Rakes,
Spencer, Thomas, Turner, Underwood, and Worsham. I have posted Outline
Descendant Tree files for the Griffith, Bryant, Cochran and Eanes families
plus a file listing everyone in my Family Tree Maker database on my home
page at www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/r/i/Marvin-C-Griffith-jr. My
biggest challenge right now is trying to find the parents of John Crafty
Griffith. Any help would be appreciated with him or with any of my lines
and hopefully my data will be of some benefit to some of you. Thanks.

Sonny Griffith
