Please check out my web page and help me straighten out some errors. Does
anyone know for sure who are the parents of Jesse Burnett b. about 1733
Brunswick Co., VA and married to Judith Prince b. abt 1751? Love to exchange
information. My maternal grandfather was Horace Clinton Burnette b. 1887,
descendent of Jesse and Judith.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have a JOSIE BURNETT/E in their Burnett line. She was
born early 1900s and died when she was 20 or 21 in the 1920s. She
married a man named JOURNELL, They had one child together
HELEN LOUISE JOURNELL. This was in Virginia. I'm not sure which county
this was in, but Helen lived in Salem Virginia when she married Clinton
Palmer. Helen was my mother in law. I can't seem to find any info on
my direct Jeremiah Burnett line, so thought I'dl go around the other way
I think Josie's father was ABE BURNETT. Sorry to be so vauge. I can't
find my notes on Josie and Helen passed away last year. Thanks for any
help. Kathy Burnett Lincks

Hello, I am new to the listings. I am trying to find information on my
Burnette family. The earliest information I have is that my g-g-grandfather
was Howard Crawford Burnette. He was married to Ela(e)nder Jane Tucker ( I
believe 2nd wife). They lived in Royston, Franklin, Co. Georgia in the late
1800's. There son Harbert Harrison Burnette Married Lois Dove in Anderson,
S.C. His brothers were Will, Grady, Arthur, and Howell. Lois and Harbert had
two children Louise and Harold Burnette, who live in Anderson, S.C. Any clues
would be great.

Greetings to Everyone:

Lee Turner sent me the following inquiry and information. Is there anyone
who would like to answer his questions about the different Turner families in
Virginia?

I descend through Shadrack Turner, and I believe he had brothers Meshack and
Abendego. If I recall correctly, Meshack relocated to Georgia.

My Turner line: Shadrack, William and Jane (Hunter), Rev. John and Nancy E.
(Burnett), John Burnett Sr and Naoma Angeline (Via), Mary Jane (Turner)
Dickens. These families were in Halifax, Henry, Franklin, and Patrick Co
Virginia.

Please send your reply to the List so we all can be enlightened.

Hi Ms. Creed.

I recently joined BTRVETC-L to learn more about these Turners, and am
wondering
if you could provide me with a brief overview of your TURNERs in VA.

Specifically, I'm aware (but not familiar) of Turners in Bedford Co, VA with
ties to the LEFTWICH family. Also, I'm aware (but not familiar) with the
Shadrack/Meshack "crowd."

I do not know if the Shadrack/Meshack Turners are one and the same as the
Bedford Co, VA Turners, and I do not know if BTRVETC researchers are
associated
with Shadrack/Meshack or Bedford.

Another question I have is how do the Turners located in the
Patrick/Franklin/Henry, VA area fit in. I have noticed a very strong
correlation between family alliances in Patrick/Franklin/Henry when compared
to
my Turners in Surry/Sussex, VA and later Franklin/Granville Co, NC.
Coincidentally, my GGG grandfather, Vines Turner, was a neighbor of William
BOBBITT in Franklin Co, NC. Bobbitt's first wife was Martha TURNER
(relationship to Vines Turner unknown), and I've been told that two of their
descendants were named Shadrack and Meshack.

I've been corresponding with Catherine Gauldin, whose Turners seem to have
given
names common in my family. If I have interpreted Catherine's message
correctly,
she has a William Turner Gaulding (b.1752 King William Co, d.1841) who married
Mallissa BURNETT in Pittsylvania Co.

Below is my correspondence with Catherine, latest to earliest.

Thanks in advance for any information you might provide,

Lee Turner

Subject: Re: GAULDING / TURNER

Thank you, Catherine.

This is very helpful.

While the earliest location of my Turners is in Surry/Sussex, family alliances
suggest that possibly they moved south to Surry/Sussex. I have speculated
that
they moved from that part of Charles City Co which became Prince George,
possibly Martins Brandon Parish. Prior to Charles City (Prince George), I
SUSPECT my Turners were in York. I understand that New Kent was formed from
York.

Of the surnames you mentioned (GAULDING, STUART, SMITH, McCUNE/McCOWAN, WEBB,
TALLEY, and BURNETT), only SMITH and BURNETT ring a bell. I believe there is
some evidence of a mid 1700's alliance between some Smiths and my Turners.
Certainly my Turners moved to a SMITH neighborhood in Franklin Co, NC about
1806. (I descend from those Smiths.)

Regarding Burnett, there is a TURNER/BURNETT e-mail list. I do not know much
about these Turners, and am curious if they are the same as the Turners in the
Franklin/Patrick/Henry Co, VA area. I have noticed an association between
Turners in the Patrick/Franklin/Henry area and surnames familiar to me in
southeastern VA and Franklin/Granville, NC. These families include LEMON,
YOUNG, CANNADY JONES, HILL, KING, BARKER, & MASON. Certainly, I need to
monitor
the TURNER/BURNETT e-mail list more closely.

Families allied with my Turners:

Surry/Sussex: JARRATT (GERRARD/GERARD/JARRARD/JARED/GARROTT), WALLACE,
EDMUNDS,
JONES, WYCHE, BETTS, WYNNE, ADAMS, LUCAS, SHELL, HARGRAVE, HICKS, CHAPPELL,
MABRY, NEWSOME, BIRDSONG, BRIGGS

Other families I "watch:" VINES, BRYANT, CHRISTIAN, MALONE, LANIER, MASON,
COLLIER, SMITH, HUNT, THOMPSON, BURGESS, JACKSON, PINKETHMAN

Franklin/Granville, NC allied families include HUNT, BOBBITT, HITE/HIGHT,
CANNADY (KENNEDY), YOUNG, STONE, SMITH, LEMON, PARK[E/S]

I'm looking for an early connection to the VINES family (which came out of
York). The VINES family had ties to the COLLIER and HICKS families, which are
always "in the neighborhood."

My James Turner was born before 1732 and his will was recorded 1794, Sussex.
He
married first Elizabeth Edmunds, daughter of William Edmunds and Judith Wyche.
The children of James Turner and Elizabeth Edmunds were as follows:

William born 8/26/1754, probably unmarried
Martha married Charles Lucas
Edmunds born 7/12/1759 died circa 1784, unmarried
Nancy born 8/8/1764, married William Adams 9/27/1786
Vines born 11/13/1766 died before 8/9/1811, married Anna Adams
               2/19/1788 (sister of William Adams)
Betsy born 3/1/1773, probably married John Shell

James Turner married second Frances Betts, dau. of Bartholomew Betts. Their
children were:

Littleton born c1787/8
Littleberry born 4/28/1788, died 6/18/1859,
                    married 4/3/1815 Mary Ann Wynne

Next generation (children of Vines Turner and Ann Adams):

Elizabeth born about 1790,
                              married Allen Bobbitt
William E[dmunds] born about 1792
Martha born about 1794, possibly married
                                   Edmunds T. Lucas on 9/1/1825
Nancy born about 1796
Vines born about 1798
Mary G[ray] born about 1800
Edmunds born about 1802
Louisa A[nna] born about 1804,
                                   did not marry (?)
James Patrick Henry born about 1806,
                                   married Margaret Eliz. Hunt
Archibald Adams born 5/23/1810, died 12/27/1857,
                                   married Mary Ann Howze

See anything familiar? I wonder if your "Lucy" could be a nickname for
Louisa.
I understand that "Nancy" is a nickname for Ann, and of course "Betsy" is a
nickname for Elizabeth.

Samuel Gaulding (b. around 1732, d ?) married Elizabeth Turner. He was
the son of John Gaulding and Anne Stuart. Samuel and Elizabeth had 7
children: William Turner (b.1752) in King William Co. (d.1841);
Archibald (b?d?); Elizabeth (m. Robert Smith); Kesiah (b.13 Dec 1766)
m. Thomas McCune (or McCowan); Anne m. John Stuart; Lucy m. George Webb
and Marsha (Patty) m. Carter Talley. William T.'s parents are
mentioned in the marriage records of Pittsylvania Co, Va 1835 to
Mallissa Burnett, and the names of his siblings came from a
cross-referenced index of surnames.

Samuel's parents were John Gaulding and Anne Stuart. Accd to Dr.
Charles Gaulden, the vital statistics records of New Kent Co. Va. list
John and Anne as having 7 children: Anne (d. at age nine accd. to
church records); Matthew; Alexander (b. 1717, d 1752);
Honour; Elizabeth (b. 1720), Martha (d. 1721) and Samuel.

I'd start looking in New Kent County, Virginia for the Turners, as this
is likely to be the place where Elizabeth came from.

Let me know if you have any luck. Catherine
