A highly polar, water soluable aromatic heterocycle that is classified as a diazole and as an alkaloid. It is an important part of many biological building-block molecules, seen in drugs such as antifungal drugs and sedatives. It also serves important industrial roles, mainly as a corrosion inhibitor. In this experiment, imidazole is used in the first step of the reaction to prepare TBSCL as a protecting group.
