Hi, beloved brothers and sisters! I'm in Omaha right
now at my parents' place. I'm enjoying my first chance to do nothing in the last 10 months. No, I'm not really doing nothing! I'm spending a lot of time with my parents and hoping to be a blessing and
encouragement to them. I'm also spending some time with friends as well as studying Spanish for my missions trip and reviewing some med school stuff that I will need to keep inside my brain at least until
boards next year. Anyone have any missions advice (or Spanish sayings I should know for witnessing) for this first-timer as I go to Ecuador on July 10th? As I look back on the last month or two, I see
many reasons why I should be shouting in praise of the great Lord of my life. Here are a few:
- God blessed my mind (which I sometimes think has a short attention span) and understanding so that I could make it through my first year of med school.
- The Lord gave me a chance to talk about the gospel with three Muslim classmates right after our last exam (believe me, that gave me a much deeper joy than finishing that last exam!).
- I am very thankful for wonderful Christian fellowship down here in Omaha. I've met some folks down here who are astoundingly in love with Jesus (kind of like you all!). I considered it a great
privilege and blessing to participate with some of them in a ministry called Street Fleet last week.
We went to downtown Omaha and prayed for people. One very God-blessed moment was when we had a chance to minister to a man who had just gone through a divorce and was now trying to raise two boys. It was
a beautiful example of God putting His people in the right place at the right time. If you get a chance, could you pray for blessings and safety on my trip to Ecuador July 10th-18th?
I love you and Jesus loves you! Brian Urgent Prayer Request! (7/8/99) Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I have an urgent prayer request. I will be leaving this Saturday to go on a medical missions trip to Ecuador. Word has it that the financial situation
in that country is a bit shaky. This has resulted in some protests from the citizens. Some of the cabdrivers in the city of Guayaquil have protested by blocking some of the exits from the city.
Unfortunately, our plane will be landing in Guayaquil and we will need to leave that city in order to get to Machala, which is where we believe the Lord wants us to do His work. Please pray that the Lord
would help us get safely to the place He wants us to be and that He would accomplish His purposes through us. Thank you all very much for taking the time to read this. The whole team would greatly appreciate
your prayers now and throughout the coming week. Lord bless you, Brian Duignan Safe Return (7/28/99) Hi brothers and sisters! I got back safely from Ecuador. It was an amazing trip! God did wonderful
things and answered many prayers. I am in awe of His power and great, loving kindness. I'll give you all more details later. I learned a lot of Spanish. I'm eager to practice my Spanish on anyone among you
who is willing. I'm still just learning. I'm praying for you all and for the precious ministry that the Lord has placed in your hands. Please pray for our med school campus Christian fellowship. Lotsa
potential! Que Dios te bendiga, (is that right?) Brian |
