William Depue Drake (1936-2003)

Professor, School of Natural Resources and Environment (1970-2003)

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (1959), Master of Business Administration (1960),
Doctor of Philosophy (Industrial Engineering) (1964) The University of Michigan

· First Director of the multi-disciplinary doctoral program in Urban & Regional Planning, The University of Michigan
· First Chairman, Ann Arbor Transportation Authority
· Member, Board of Directors, Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation 

And, as evidence of his dedication to transportation, he was certified to operate this
steam locomotive

President (1977-2003) of the non-profit Community Systems Foundation (CSF), Bill traveled worldwide helping private agencies, governments and the United Nations improve the management of child and family health, nutrition, and development affairs.

Bill�s unfailing optimism, perseverance, and joy of living explain his success in starting new ventures.  He was an inspiration to countless students and to his many friends.
He was a joy to know.

Community Systems Foundation and Friends of CSF donated the funds to dedicate this room as a surrogate for Bill�s true classroom: the world.
