February 8, 2000:

Resolution to Support the Occupation of Michigamua's Space in the Michigan Union

Whereas, Michigamua is a "secret society" at the University of Michigan which occupies the top three floors of the Michigan Union.

Whereas, Michigamua imitates the culture of Native American people in a racist and offensive way.

Whereas, on Sunday, February 6, 2000, the Student of Color Coalition occupied the top three floors of the Michigan Union to demand that U of M cease affiliation with and funding of Michigamua and turn the space into a cultural study lounge.

Therefore be it resolved,

The Michigan Student Assembly supports the occupation of Michigamua's space in the Michigan Union.

Be it further resolved, MSA calls on the administration to grant the demands of the sit-in.

Be it finally resolved,

The Michigan Student Assembly calls for no arrests, code charges, or disciplinary action of any sort be taken against students carrying out the occupation.

Passed.
