Resolution to Support the February 22, 2001 Day of Action in Defense of Integration and Affirmative Action
Whereas, February 22, 2001 will be a Day of Action in Defense of Integration and Affirmative Action.
Whereas, the Day of Action will include a Noon rally and march on the Diag.
Whereas, through National Days of Action and other events, students across the country have built a movement to defend integration and affirmative action which is beginning to win and turn back the attack on affirmative action. During February and March the outcome of the University of Michigan Law School Trial will be determined at the District Court level, and the fate of affirmative action is being worked out across the country over these months.
Whereas, the Michigan Student Assembly has had a long-standing position of support for the fight to defend integration and affirmative action and has been a leader to students in Michigan and throughout the country.
Therefore be it resolved, the Michigan Student Assembly supports the February 22, 2001 Day of Action in Defense of Integration and Affirmative Action.
Therefore be it resolved, MSA encourages university and high school students, and all supporters of affirmative action and integration in Michigan to attend the rally and march at U of M for the Day of Action.
Therefore be it resolved, MSA will send a speaker to the rally.
Therefore be it resolved, MSA President Hideki Tsutsumi and Vice-President Jim Secreto will write a letter of invitation to area university and high school students and teachers to facilitate their attendance at the rally and march.
Therefore be it resolved, the MSA Affirmative Action Task Force will spend $200 to cover the cost of Diag and sound system rental and signs for the rally and march.
