Resolution to Declare Support for Defendants in U of M Lawsuits
Whereas, the University of Michigan college of Literature, Science and Arts and the U of M Law School are being sued over their affirmative action policies; joining the University as defendants are 58 black, Latino, Asian, Arab, Hawaiian and white students, Citizens for Affirmative Action's Preservation, United for Equality and Affirmative Action, the Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action By Any Means Necessary and Law Students for Affirmative Action.
Whereas, these cases are increasingly in the national spotlight of the fight over the future of affirmative action and integration in higher education, and are likely to set a national legal precedent for affirmative action policy.
Whereas, the CBS program 60 Minutes will be coming to campus soon to discuss the anti-affirmative action lawsuits with U of M students, and this will be an important opportunity for U of M students to broadcase their support for affirmative action and racial integration and their dedication to defending it to the rest of the country.
Resolved, The Michigan Student Assembly goes on record publicly supporting the defendants in the lawsuits against the University of Michigan LS&A and Law Schools.Resolved, MSA will send copies of this resolution to the Michigan Daily, Lee Bollinger, and the national office of CBS and 60 Minutes.
