John Jewell played high school hockey for Sacred Heart High School in Laurium, Michigan. Joining several other players from the Calumet area, John played goal for Coach Eddie Lowrey from 1933-1935. During his career, he had 28 wins, 12 losses, 4 ties, and 7 shutouts. In 18 of his career games he only allowed one goal. John played every minute of every game until late in his senior year when an operation forced him to miss a game. His college career goals against average was 1.84. | |
In the 1934-35 season, he was elected Co-captain
with John Sherf. In the 1933-34 season, John had 59 saves in a 2-1 victory
over Kitchener, for his most memorable game at Michigan.
