From Calgary, Alberta, Bob played for the Toronto St Mikes Jr. B and Jr. A teams as well as the Wetaskwin Canadians Jr. A team before enrolling at Michigan. He played three years under Coach Vic Heyliger, 1949 - 1950 through 1951 - 1952. His career scoring totals include 39 goals and 64 assists for 103 points. Bob led all Michigan scorers in 1952 with 13 goals and 31 assists in 24 games.
 
Nicknamed "Happy", Bob's most memorable experience was scoring three goals in a 5 -4 victory over arch-rival Minnesota. Bob also scored the winning goal in the first game of the NCAA Tournament in 1951, an 8 - 2 Michigan victory. He was one of two defensemen on the 1951 All-Tournament Team and was a 1951 All-American Selection. After graduation with a degree in Geology, Bob returned to Calgary and a career in the oil industry
