different backends off of same server

I was dabbling with different backends from the the same server and was
a little confused. As I understand it from the Slapd Admin Guide, I must
address a separate subtree to be able to use different backend dbs.

Does this mean I cannot use different backend dbs for different
attributes within a given objectclass ? (i.e. userPassword from
/etc/shadow and employeeID from Oracle DB )
