Warning: Swaddling is harmful to your baby's
health.
Swaddling is incredibly harmful to babies,
for they are wrapped so tightly in cloths
that they can not move their limbs. They
can't even move their head to the side to
spit up, causing some babies to choke. Because
of how constricted their lungs are, their
breathing slows down, sometimes causing suffocation.
Quite often, mothers would wrap their
child in the morning and change the wrapping
only at night, causing the child to soil
the cloths quite regularly. Furthermore,
swaddling was used as a matter of convenience
for mothers--they could hang their baby up
on a peg in the wall while they worked
in the home (5).
