P8-A
The elementary reversible organic liquid-phase reaction.
is carried out in a flow reactor. An equal molar feed in A and B enters at 47°C, and the volumetric rate is 2 dm3/s and CA0 = 0.1 mol/dm3.
- For adiabatic operation, plot X, Xe and T of the PFR profiles up to a volume of 100 dm3.
- Repeat (a) when a heat exchanger is added, Ua = 0.8 cal/dm3/s/K, and the coolant temperature is constant at Ta = 320 K.
- Repeat (b) for a co-current heat exchanger for a coolant flow rate of 50 g/s and CPe = 1 cal/g • K, and in inlet coolant temperature of Ta0 = 320 K. Also plot Ta versus volume.
- Repeat (c) for counter current coolant flow.
- Compare your answers to (a) through (d) and describe what you find. What generalizations can you make?
- Vary the coolant rate (1 < < 1,000 g/s) for (c) and (d) and describe what you find.
- Repeat (a) (b) (c)and (d) when the reaction is endothermic with ΔHRx = 6,000 cal/mol but with T0 = 400K and Ta0 = 450K.
