Additional Homework Problems

CDP10-TB

  The elementary isothermal gas-phase reaction

is carried out in a moving-bed reactor. The catalyst decays by sintering. The moving bed contains 100 kg of catalyst and the catalyst flow rate through the bed is adjusted so that the exiting catalytic activity is one-fourth of the entering activity. The specific reaction rate for fresh catalyst is 10 -4 dm 3 /g cat.middots. Pure A enters at a concentration of 0.005 mol/dm 3 and a volumetric flow rate of 3.75 dm 3 / s. The residence time of a catalyst particle in the reactor is 5 min. What conversion can be expected?
