Robots as "Terminators"

Isaac Asimov's first Law of Robotics states that a robot "may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm." However, as early as Metropolis , robots have been programmed with the specific mission to kill. Often robots are meant to be defenders, protecting only select human beings at the expense of others. This is seen in Robocop where the program of the robot is to protect the city from criminals and in Terminator.
