EDUCATION IN VIDEO TECHNOLOGY

Foreign language education is a difficult endeavor, made all the more so by the number of languages taught at the University of Michigan as well as by the number of students being taught.

The Language Resource Center, or LRC, is a tool to help students and instructors better navigate the process of language instruction and learning. The use of video resources plays a major role in this process.

Included in the centers resources are a number of foreign language videotapes, available for use by students at video stations in the center. These tapes are often affiliated with classes, and are used in conjunction with the lesson plan of the course. There are also various foreign films available to further the language study of students.

Assigned videos are checked out by students at the front window.
The video is then viewed by the student
at an assigned carrell, where the student
controls the VCR via use of a remote.
The LRC also downloads satellite signals containing programs from overseas, and copies them to videotape for use in the classroom.

The LRC also is available for use by faculty to make and edit videos for their classes.
