The United States Information Agency "When the president or anyone else accomplishes something, the outpouring of publicity from USIA recalls Hollywood's huckstering of stupendous, colossal, you-name-it movies of the 1920s" (Green). The U.S. Information Agency (USIA) produces video programs and films available to foreign journalists, networks and American embassies. The videos cover news about the U.N. and the latest events occurring in the U.S. The Information Agency produces their own programs, as well as acquiring programs from U.S. broadcast networks for international audiences. Worldnet, part of USIA, was formed in 1983 and broadcasts live programs (news, commentary and features) by satellite to U.S. embassies, television stations and cable systems all over the world. Worldnet produces live conferences where foreign journalists and experts debate issues with American spokesmen. |
