Crackle, crackle. I wish I had seen it happen, but the look on
Mandor's face was enough to inform me that my theories are correct; not
only does it appear that at least the Star cannot interfere with the
operations of Trump, but it is indeed possible to set someone directly on
a Pattern. Rapture. Of course, there will be no safe place to store my
device, but the secret to protection is to gear it towards your enemy's
weakness. The majority of difficulty would appear to come from the
Hendrakes, a notoriously slow-witted lot who have already demonstrated an
interest in my Mebd. Imagine the glee of any spy of theirs who finds a
Trump of her demon form, hidden away where no one could possibly think it
findable. Imagine the card fluttering to the ground after it immediately
transports him to the Star. It truly is the small things which make one's
day.
Affairs, in general, go well, despite slight problems which need
readjustment. Ahab has no doubt already begun spreading news of my
interest in "escaping" known Reality. Jasra's devotion to Father remains
as sickening as ever, corresponding to her eternal hatred of me. I will
have to do something about that eventually, but it is enough for now that
she loves Brand totally. Sadly, Father does not appear to hold even
slight affection for her, focusing his attention on deriding my
self-awareness. He remains my greatest difficulty, but his is hardly the
most important role. I am not, after all, a fool. Vetch, however, is, if
he truly thinks to embroil the Sawall's in his petty concerns. If he is
stupid enough to allow his destruction, it is no concern of mine. He is a
client and I will aid him, but there was never any mention of throwing
myself foolishly into vengeance on his behalf. It will not come to that
if he only considers for a moment his true position. The bit of
information I threw Ahab's way should be arriving to Vetch soon enough,
and I have no doubts as to his decision upon receiving it. Now I only
have to sit back and await the culmination of my plans.
Who said there's no rest for the wicked?
