Why am I sitting in a bar? I definitely have things I could do. What
a rutting pain in the ass. I can't get to that bitch smith without a
ship. Caine doesn't seem to feel I should use my place on Amber's ships.
Maybe he's right, maybe. It is an Amber ship, not mine, really. Yet,
it's supposed to defend Amber, and having my Kvalnir back definitely helps
defend Amber. Seems to be a valid enough reason. And besides, why's
Caine claiming my explanation was bullshit? It may not have been the true
reason I sailed, but they were valid reasons. A captain and his crew sail
together before called on to fight, several times, the more the better,
day and night, in all weather. And we may have to fight soon, no reason
to put it off, or wait a while. Nope, no reason. It's a legitimate
cover. In fact, I should sail again soon, for that very reason. Except
we still don't have any orders. Which is why I thought I had the liberty
in the first place. And a random patrol makes perfect sense. We weren't
on a regular patrol schedule, so sailing at off times outside ordinary
routes might catch an enemy of Amber making use of the inevitable holes in
the security. And it worked. I found the derelict fleet within a day of
the disaster. After all, how long would Gérard's fleet have
drifted before being found?
I was lucky. Caine might be right, but...no, better to be safe.
There are other ways to get a ship, in Shadow. Shouldn't be too hard.
Get a ship, get Kvalnir, find out who's messed with Rimmersgard, and
reciprocate.
So, why am I sitting in a bar?
