Felix's log,
Chapter 118
Wednesday, August 23, 2994
Felix and Tamaryn spend the morning discussing wedding plans - it
is decided that the "blessed event" will occur in approx. six months -
hopefully so they can have the ceremony outdoors. Dress is undecided -
although Tamaryn suggests that Felix wear his kilt. Felix considers it,
if only to make his son wear a kilt (something he swore he'd never
do). They spend the afternoon sailing with the children...barely
returning to the castle in time for:
The evening of unending torment.
Felix and Tamaryn get back to the castle just in time to find out
about the formal dinner scheduled for that evening. They clean themselves
up, dress, and go down to mingle. During the "cocktail hour," they wander
over to Ariana. Talk about the wedding ensues. Ishmael joins them, then
tries to hit on Tamaryn...and Felix tries to dissuade him. Ariana and
Felix talk about their families' respective oceanfront properties (or lack
thereof) - Felix had mentioned that he would have liked to have had the
ceremony out at his parents', except that it doesn't exist anymore.
Enter Irene.
Exit Felix...or so he wished. Says Irene - "So, who are these
people?" Replies Felix, "...umm...err...gurgle..." So Irene and Ariana
introduce each other...and Felix proceeds to introduce them again, then he
swallows hard, and introduces Irene to Tamaryn (as his fiancée).
Irene just gets this look, which Ariana notes, and later warns Felix
about. Irene starts to ask all sorts of seemingly innocent questions of
the happy couple, all of the while scheming her ultimate revenge against
Felix, our formerly happy-go-lucky protagonist. Felix only has Ariana's
warnings, and an overly-developed sense of paranoia to go on.
Dinner is served - Ariana later tells Felix that Irene was staring
at Tamaryn and him throughout the meal (for Tamaryn's sake, of
course...Felix be damned). Eric talks during dinner.
Dancing follows dinner - this is where Ariana issues further
warnings to Felix. Felix dances with Tamaryn - whom Felix tries to warn,
and who dismisses it as paranoid prattling. Then Felix dances with Ariana
(who gives him the 411). They notice that Irene has moved to speak with
Tamaryn. They return to the pair once the dance has concluded - when
Irene mentions how she never gets to dance, because she is married
to an ancient man who is orders of magnitude her senior...and how much she
misses dancing...and how fun it is to dance... Tamaryn drops some hints
that perhaps Felix should ask Irene, but Felix ignores them. Then Irene's
husband collects her and they leave (but not before dissing Felix).

Felix is awoken by an early morning Trump call - Laughter and
Foster have been attacked, and Ygg-II destroyed. Laughter and Foster had
been checking in with Fiona and Suhuy on a regular basis, and missed a
call. Fiona and Suhuy went to investigate, only to find the tree
destroyed, and Laughter and Foster's memories wiped clean. Tabula rosa.
Felix demands to know who in the family had the power to do something like
this, reasoning that the Chaosites can't cross the gap, and not having
anyone of Faerie to ask a similar question to. The ballots come in: the
redheads. Felix and crew go to chez Brand - to visit Brand and Clarissa.
Felix then insists that Ona be brought through to scan both Brand and
Clarissa. This reveals Clarissa's meeting with the chessboard. Brand
refuses to be scanned, and then falls through the floor. Brand has been
replaced by a faerie - meaning that he very well could have done the evil
deed.
Felix yells and breaks some stuff. People leave to start trying
to track Brand down, and Felix is left alone, slumping on the floor.
A while later, Felix recovers his composure. He breaks the news
to his parents, his grandchildren, and Driscoll. Iseult gets angry and
runs away - the most dramatic reaction of any of the children. Driscoll
looks devastated. Felix ends up in the infirmary with most of his
immediate family, waiting for Laughter and Foster to awaken from their
drug induced sleep. He hopes that things will be fine, but knows in his
heart that they won't have any idea who he is. This is where the session
ended for Felix.
